Can someone please tell me the difference between thin clients and fat clients? I've tried to understand it in my textbook but it's so technical and useless for definitions. I'd appreciate a definition in your own words.

Thankyou!

A fat client can operate with limited dependence on the server. It may only need to periodically save or retrieve data from the server. A thin client relies heavily on the processing functions of the server to operate.
At my school the workstations are fat..capable of functioning if the server fails (albeit with no internet access). Where I used to work we had thin clients..everything was saved/retrieved to the server ..at our desks we just had screen, keyboard, mouse. Thin clients save money, are easier to manage but a nuisance if the server has issues.
