For one of my subjects at school, the whole class dropped so my school wouldn't be able to staff it, and they said I would have to do distance education next year for the year 12 content. Does anyone know what this is like and if it will still help me to get good marks? Like how do they teach you?

I did all of year 11 and 12 distance ed and it sucked really bad for me since I cannot self study at all and I have terrible discipline 😭 but if you're the opposite of me and you can self study and hold yourself accountable I'm sure you'll be fine especially since it's only for one subject. They mostly use zoom lessons (just going over slide shows) and depending on the subject they'll give you a work book or a quiz style activity. It's possible to get good marks, it's all dependant on you tbh and if you're motivated to work hard

are the zoom meetings like in groups or just you and the teacher? and are they on certain times or can you choose the time?

Zoom meetings are with your whole class and the teacher(s). They're usually around 11am - 12pm, depending on the subject (but most often around those times) I never got to choose the times so I'm pretty sure you can't choose times

I did year 11 engineering distance ed with SDEHS. How it worked was they sent worksheets through the mail and also pdfs online, along with a textbook chapter. You needed to do one set of worksheets each week, and we arranged with our teacher to do fortnightly web lessons. The worksheets were pretty easy and was basically just copying the textbook. We also had termly study days where we’d go into the school in Woolloomooloo, and try cover a lot of content in 4 hours. Overall it was alright, but the struggle is not having someone to ask questions in person, especially cause engineering is sort of content heavy. I’d recommend utilising all email messaging systems with your teacher, and if you’re struggling and they are a nice teacher book extra one on one meetings if you feel you’re falling behind. Ig it also depends on the nature of the subject you’re doing, and the school you’re doing the distance ed with

I do most of my subjects through distance ed via Aurora College. Aurora College is only available for rural schools and has a fairly limited subject offerings, but it's pretty good because we have scheduled microsoft teams meetings in class groups and the teachers are really good.
(It does mean a lot of 8am and after-school classes though, and there are sometimes problems with my other class teachers at my main school because of timetable clashes :-/ )

i personally know a lot of people who found it really rewarding and they are doing great but that's because they are the sort of people to prefer self- study and they are vary motivated and keep up with the work, you have to almost treat it as if you are in class even if there isn't always a teacher there to check if you're working or not, and yes they do require submissions so they can check your work. yeah you can still succeed over distance ed if you are committed to self-studying and seeking out help/resources from teachers in you school that might have some knowledge abt the subject

I guess it depends on the subject.
I did biology via DSODE in year 12 in 2016 (it was condensed so prelim and HSC in same year)
If you stayed ontop of the weekly learning they set out it was good - but to get the most out of the classes/zoom calls you needed to be ontop of that weekly reading/learning.
My work came in weekly packs with a booklet to read through, and on Moodle there would be activities with questions and videos to watch.
During the weekly calls it was reviewing the work we had read through/moodle work we had completed in the week prior.

There were 2-3 days that year where the teachers physically came to the school to do hands on experiments

Overall I found that the type of learning with distance was similar to university learning, in the sense it’s very self directed. Although I had issues with motivation/staying up to date with my work I did enjoy it.

Addit: I wanted to do chemistry via distance but with the guidance of my school decided against it as doing 2 distance subjects would have been too much and chem too complex to do via DE
