Whats yourstance on capital punishment. Should it be introduced or should it not exist. I'm not sure myself really, pretty much sitting on the fence at the moment. Although i can see some pros to capital punishment.

Why spend around 50 000 a year on life imprisonment for a person who is a serial killer, where this money could be used on something much better, like funding support programs for the poor, better transportation in NSW ;) .

Although on the other hand, the job of imprisonmen, correct e oif im wrong, is in part to rehabilitate people who have commited crimes. Life imprisonment gives people this chance for self introspection and discovery, alowing them to understand and analyse their mistakes in life. Further, it also gives a second chance, if contradictory evidence surfaces against the crime relating it to anther person.

Its hard, so what do you all rekon?

I reackon we go back to the days where executions were a nice public display and people paid money to attend.

Maybe not that extreme, but pro capital punishment in aggravating circumstances.

Not exactly with that idea, but allowing them to decide straight off is wrong.

Allowing them to decide to not proceed with capital punishment however, I have no problem with. But it would require a two stage process, jury votes for capital punishment, next of kin decides if they want capital punishment to procede.

I think capital punishment should be used in only very extreme cases were the persons guilt can be proved far past reasonable doubt. Keeping a person locked up and they will never see the outside again is a blatant waste of money.

martin bryant..............is a sick cunt................i like the bloke.

as far as i recall......some of the family members of those killled...........rallied hard to get guns bannned......and that made me looose..............my pump action shot gun.

for that........................i am a big fan of bryant...because he injured ppple i absolutely detest.

eat shit...........to all the families of the victims who...tried to stop decent citizens having guns.

But he is mentally sick..anyways.............like alot of ppple who killl have mental illnesses...etc

I support..........................civilians killing each other and taking matters into there own hands..... when ppple killlll someone who desreves it i have no problem at all with it. but you can only kill ppple who have done something extremely serious to you, a family memmber or close freind. examples would include,,,,,,,,,,,killing someone, rape and severe bashing or attempted murder etc.

Couragous and honorable men should not be imprisoned for doing the right thing.
and many of them are currrently being persecuted in jail. plenty of murderers should be released.

if someone kills ur family mememmber or whatever rapes ur daughter......................and u go and get a gun and execute the person.....................i bow to you.

Our justice system shouldnt have capital punishment though ----- cos it should take the moral high ground.................................its wrong for our court system........to say..........killing is wrong......adn then to go and killl ppppple.

Um, obviously you know shit all about death row - often people sit on death row for years and years and it becomes a more expensive process than life imprisionment due to endless appealing etc.

I very strongly oppose capital punishment for a number of reasons, the catylyst being that you cannot ever ensure that there's no margin of error.

sometimes i wonder if u say such wierd things just for fun......and the ppl of port arthur didnt do anything to deserve being shot........they didnt kill anyone or rape anyone from bryants family.......that was just cold blooded murder.......i dont agree with killing martin though....what will that achieve.......he should be made to suffer though and worked like an animal all day........

Tattood guy's a stupid fuck with no logic

It's bad to have capital punishment for people who kill innocents but it's alright to kill people that rally for gun control.

ummmm.............its logical.

i feeel bad for those who died --------------seriously.........they are innocent.

im pissed offf at ....... the families of those killed who........rather than blaming bryant..they used their tradgedy and the media circus as a platform to rally to destroy pples right to have certain weopons...................

so therefore i have no sympathy for those ppppple...........and they can eat shit and suffer....................................but those who.............toook it on the chin.......and didnt complain about guns etc.................im very very sympathetic.

I dont approve of bryants actions on the ppple he killed....but i am grateful for the pain and suffering..............of the survivors and the families who attacked the freeedoms of law abiding gun owners. make sense?

Its shit heads like you that make it great that the gun laws are imposed. BTW, who would want a fucing pump action shot gun, fuck man, what are you going to do with it, form a fucking KKK appreciation clan to blow the shit through innocent Australians?

Furthermore, your saying that because most of the terrorism happening in Arab nations, therefore by some saught of deductive logic, that all arabs are trrorists? What the fuck man? AS "not so bright" pointed out, you obviously are a stupid fuck with no logic.

Its so hard for me to comment on something intellectually when the composer is nothing but a fucked up dog. Indeed there are going to be many law abiding gun owners. But equally there are gonna be those that use such dangerous weapons to malicious intent. Having such a gun is not of a necessity, but preventing massacres such as port Arthur is.

I'm against capital punishment.... there is no real proof that its all that very effective, as other people have said we can never be 100 percent certain that someone is guilty, and lastly the death of anyone, even someone who is just plain wrong solves nothing.
I can see the points in favour of it, but personally I don't like the idea, violence begets violence. Plus, as someone also alread said, it can still be a very long and expensive process due to the appeals
