My PIP....

Hey,
Well, I'm only doing my mini PIP but I really want to have a catchy title...my PIP topic is "Does e-bay reflect the ideology of society?" If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated!!
Also, what course concepts could I relate this to?? I was thinking 'Time' and look at how the ideals of society have changed, (is that right??)
And, what could my cross cultural component be?? I was thinking maybe look at different ages...
Thanks!!

Re: My PIP....

well, what evident ideologies of society are displayed on ebay? Are there even any?

I don't think you have grasped your topic properly or your topic doesn't sound right at all :-\. How can time be related to ebay? You can't just really focus on the ideologies of society over time.

To be straight-forward, I think you should choose a different topic, research on it and worry about the title later [from your post, it seems you are just starting it...]. If it isn't too late.

yeah...when i say ideology, I'm meaning, does the popularity of eBay show that people are becoming lazier...or are they simply more concious about the amount they're spending.
And with time, i thought I could analyse how the preferences of older generations are much different to the younger. Like you said, I'm not sure whether it'll fall through because its not due for another week...

Ideology in the syllabus:

refers to the body of doctrine, myth and symbols of a social movement, a social class or institution. Many sociologists use the term with particular reference to the set of beliefs, attitudes and/or practices that overtly or covertly serve the interests of one particular group, government or social class as opposed to serving universal interests.
I don't think what you are referring to is ideology, it is more like globalisation and possibly popular culture [look at the definitions in your syllabus].

Comparing the generations is not looking at time. That would be the concept of cross cultural comparison.

With the concept of time, it is looking at ebay from xxxx to now and comparing what has changed [or continued] during that time and this is virtually impossible.

Uhh, well I found that 'ideology' can be a comprehensive vision, as in everyday life. Every society has an ideology that forms the basis of the "public opinion" or common sense, a basis that usually remains invisible to most people within the society....this can be related to the idea that modern day society are now expecting things easier, faster, and cheaper. An ideology very similiar to that of the popular internet auction site, 'eBay.
Unfortunately, the assessment is due to tomorrow, so I've just continued with what I'm doing, and your right, I probably should have chosen a better topic but now i'm breezing through it so it's not that bad...
Thanks for your heads up on cross cultural comparison however with time I can still compare how the popularity of eBay has improved, the income rapidly increasing yearly as well as how it has reached various different countries across the globe.. couldn't I?
Thanks for your help.....

That's a nice train of though you've got going there. Good point.

Everything is a learning experience. This was not your PIP PIP right? It was just a prelim PIP...?

Another good point. Over time, ebay has become more popular and has attracted heaps of viewers.
