hey

can anybody plz explain to me how a token ring works? and why ? i dont really get it. =| thankQ!

A simple explanation...

The token, which is really a packet of bits, circulates the ring. If a computer wishes to transmit data it must first capture the token. It then sends its data and releases the token. As there is only one token then it's not posible for data collisions to occur.

Pretend a massive birthday card is being sent around a circle. Only the person with the birthday card can write on it. Anyone else who wants to write something has to wait for the card to come to them. It's slow, but it avoids collisions.
