Does anyone know how to find out if your school is in the top 200? And how does this help your UAI?

I'm assuming you mean for 'Oakhill College Castle Hill'. The one provided in the link comes from the Daily Telegraph which uses percentage of total exams taken. The reason, it ranked so low was because it had a low percentage of band 6s. The other one (from the SMH) does not do percentage but does it by raw numbers. Since that school probably had a huge number of total exams taken, a small percentage would still give a large number compared to a school that a small number of exams taken.

To illustrate say for example, school A (like yours) took a total of 1000 exams and school B took a total of 500 exams. School A achieves 200 band 6s whereas school B achieves 150 band 6s.

By the SMH way, school A would rank higher than school B because the raw total of band 6s in school A is higher than that of school B (200 > 150). The Daily Telegraph on the other hand, takes into account the size of total candidature. The total percentage of band 6s in school A is 20% whereas in school B it is 30%. Therefore, the Daily Telegraph would rank school B higher than school A, because a higher portion of people got band 6s in school B than in school A. (30% > 20%)

Most people regard the Daily Telegraph (the one in the link given above) as more accurate because it takes percentage counts...

the only real advantage is the competition anyone can get any UAI at any school if they work for it. i am not sure about other schools (i go to a selective) so it really depends on how much your cohort pushes themselves!:)

Hah, they lower each year.

But don't rely on trends so much. It really depends on the work ethic of your cohort.
i guess last year's ones must have been a little more lazy then :p
