oh no.. its not a waste.. its just cutting the pie up a different way..

in UNSW u still do a "6 month" ... research project... aka Independent Learning Project.. no extra degree for it..
in Adelaide/newcastle/monash/UWS u will do research proposals and methods in the course... adelaide does 1 extra yr of practical aka the pre-intern yr.... to make it 6 yrs..

UWA has a very solid science basis atm.. so 3 yrs of sci.. and 3 yrs of practical.....

im unfamiliar with JCU.. and UTAS.. but they also options for yr 12s..

Thankyou +Po1ntDeXt3r+ and un

so im asuming that everyone interested in the medical field has already applied for the UMAT??

Anyways if i could do medicine then id go for Monash dont ask why though i juz heard it has a good reputation for med. but realisitcally if i do get into med ill probably go to UNSW or USYD
Then again they all are pretty good options!!

Did everybody do their sciences [bio, chem and phys] cuz in some unis it s a prerequisite?? but i only do physics

ok UMAT information: http://www.acer.edu.au/tests/university/umat/intro.html

and .. undergrad= bachelors.. which can = grad entry..Usyd

pls stop saying post-grad = MSc(Med), MS, MMed, MPhil(Med), PhD (Med), MD.

Monash good uni.. but ure undergrad realli doesnt matter.. all www.amc.org.au accredited courses will give u a license to practise in Australia/NZ..

I got to admit.. i did chem and physics.. and im ok.. u just pick up the stuff.. its all human bio in med..

srsly.. just go to the one u like.. and be set with ure decision.. dun have to put other med schools down.. cos frankly.. they will be ure peers.. my interns that look after me are from Flinders.. and Adelaide.. the others are from Monash too.. and others from Overseas.. after about 2 yrs.. no ONE cares... much lik the HSC/VCE/SACE and the yr 12 marks..

unless u want to make a point of it.. its not realli an issue

in fact i want to teach at a school one day... and teaching is part of medicine..

also i do agree with wat u guys have said in #35, 36 & 37 about how it doesnt matter which uni u go to

i must say i learn a lot from these forums :p so thanks everyone for the info

can i just clarify one thing? outside of nsw, not many people care about unsw. like its v prestigious in nsw, especially b/c all the james ruse kids want to go there, but it barely meets a blink when i spoke about it 2 my high ENTER friends in vic, etc. (though they were happy for me to get an interview there- just as happy as when i got interviews/places at other unis though).

look at the courses, see which ones u like, and order your preferences accordingly. remember u only have to preference med schools according to each state, so...

VTAC: have 2 decide if u'll put melb or monash first?
UAC: unsw, usyd, uncle, uws, anu provisional first? which order?
QTAC: uq, jcu, bond first?
SATAC, TISC, UTAS: luckily decision is made for u as there's only one med school in each of those

remember u could concurrently get offers from uac, vtac, satac, tisc and utas (if u were a lucky bugger).

Haha, well, I'm having a ball at UWS? And it's only 5 years. Awesomeness.

I took that timeframe into account, because with all the training later on, a few years less while you're at uni could make a difference.

also, chem and english r prereqs at most unis.

at umelb u have to do at least 2 of the following 3 classes in yr 12:
physics
methods = 3u maths = maths B
specialist = 4u maths = maths C
