Thank You For Smoking was really good, but not to the point where I would say it was overrated. I reckon Kenny defientely should be in the Top10 though.

the latter. syriana should've made my overrated list, but i forgot about it.

and you MUST see children of men before it leaves cinemas! if there's one film from this year that has to be seen on the big screen, that's it.

i keep meaning to see it and failing to
maybe i'll go tomorrow. it's still showing, surprisingly

another big one i missed is the new world. i keep thinking it'll look shithouse on my small tele.

nwatts: what is there to hate about caché?

the fact that he didn't get it. :p

and hostel was only 'gold' in the sense that diahorrea has a vague gold-ish color when it gets really bad.

walrus - check out the new world anyway, even though i've been put off seeing it again on dvd since i can't imagine it living up to my theater experience. i've been lucky to see all of malick's film on the big screen; i'm such a lucky cunt.

i kind of liked A Scanner Darkly, but its one of those movies you have to watch twice before you can make meaning out of everything.

saw badlands @ the chauvel last year on a double bill with they live by night; they're showing both next month, so check out both if you can! btw, have you been too the chauvel since it re-opened in july?

capote was ok, a bit overrated, but not enough to make my over-fucking-rated list.

what's to hate about cache? annoying characters i didn't care for at all

i saw the new world on my tv and it was still great. there are moments when you're dying to be standing where he's filming but on a whole you don't lose too much.

sadly i haven't been to chauvel since it opened again. i've missed lots of good movies in that space too (just found out they screened los olvidados a few weeks ago :(). is it all changed? annoying new decor or something?

if badlands is showing next month i'll have to be there. have been trying to see it for ages.

check out mutual appreciation there if possible (my #2 on the list). if you dig early jarmusch (stranger than paradise esp.) and linklater you'll love it. has 93% on RT w 40 reviews.

los olvidados is on youtube in 8 parts; i watched it there and was blown away.

and nwatts, you didn't like cache because the characters were annoying, but thought hostel was gold? we're supposed to be distanced from the characters in the former anyway, whereas hostel suffered mainly because the characters were so blatantly unworthy of audience sympathy, and the film spends so much time with them trying (and failing) to build tension as if they were worth caring about.

i also nominate 'suburban mayhem' as one of the year's worst.
did anyone else see this piece of shit?

i just said it was playing now at the chauvel! it's finishing its run soon tho.

i didn't see suburban mayhem, but i imagined it'd be a pseudo-transgressive load of bollocks.
