I guess if you have a good WAM, its good for employers, and if you want to get in to honours/post grad courses

At UNSW anyway..im not 100% sure for other faculties, but in Commerce, you need a 71% WAM for all subjects in that major to get into honours

I know that Newcastle uses WAM to determine awards of honours in the engineering faculty [not an additional year, just an automatic award] and I'm pretty sure that WAM would be used for honours admittance in other faculties as well

I have a friend who got a uai of 53 and goes to La trobe university doing business. the weird thing is shes already gotten 2 credit averages and 2 distinctions in first semester even after she got such a low UAI..shes also getting great results in 2nd semester aswell.

Shes put in a transfer to UTS business in 2005 what do you people think will be her chances? she is trying so hard and she thinks she has no hope of transfering to B business at UTS ..do you people think she has a chance?

It puts her 'ranking' (not sure if there is a proper term...like, UAI+GPA) at about 71 (not entirely sure...does a GPA of 5.5 rate better than one of 5?)
Anyways, if the BBus is less than that, then she is in.

yes :)

For example, the Faculty of Law, UTS offers honours if your Law WAM is 75 or greater for first class, 70 or greater for second class.

Its used in the end, ie. ur Grad cert. with Credit, Distinction etc.

Also i think unis use WAM to assess for scholarships.

After 1 year of study, with a UAI of 63 and a GPA of 5.5 (credit average) will give you a tertiary rank (just use it like you use the UAI) of 77

If you get that distinction average though which is a GPA of 6.0, you'll get a tertiary rank of 78.5

So you'll be able to get into alot of courses in UNSW or USYD.

Another option you can take is going to uMaq or UWS as I have heard its alot easier to transfer courses there.

Good luck to you.
