Okay so due to mis-informed subject choices, I probably won't get the atar for commerce.
(no bonus points, and shit scaling subjects including one where they only give 2% of students a band 6...)

So the dilemma is.

Option A - Take a bachelor of media (PR and advertising) at UNSW. (Should get in, and stand a pretty good chance of getting a decent GPA to transfer, but I will be wasting a year)

Option B - Take commerce at Macquarie and try transfer into 2nd year NSW commerce (i'm just guessing this is possible) However due to the maths type subjects in 1st year commerce, ill probably struggle to get the GPA (i dont know what the GPA is, im just guessing it'll be high) Plus side of this would be i'm not wasting a year, however I'd rather be at NSW for this year than Macquarie.

If anyone can tell me what sort of average ill need to transfer and whether there is any benefit to already being at the uni over being at a different uni for the selection process it would be greatly appreciated.

hey man...dont sweat it too hard...unless they made it tougher to get in over the last 2years...
I highly NOT recommend option A...since you need 75+ in all your courses and trust me...its pretty hard since the work load can get pretty heavy.
i think your chances of option b is good...i did uws for 1yr and managed to get a transfer lol...(i think their computer must have had a glitch) ;)
i did general maths, so you definitely shouldnt be worried...btw you might still have to repeat some subjects...not sure if mq have the same 1st yr subs as unsw...i managed to get 5/8 subject credit for my work in uws ;)
anyways goodluck !

I'm at Macquarie and have explored transferring to UNSW and USYD because I wanted to focus on more qualitative finance subjects (since like you said, Macquarie teaches certain courses with a very quantitative focus). Didn't end up going through with it though. I should note that both universities are pretty stingy with the credit they offer. Here is what UNSW sent me in regards to transferring from MQ:

Dear XXXXXX,

Thank you for your enquiry.

You are welcome to apply through UAC to transfer into the Bachelor of Commerce at the University of New South Wales. From the information you have provided, it seems that you have completed more than 1 full-time year of study at Macquarie University. In this case, UNSW will make an assessment of your qualifications based 75% on your tertiary studies and 25% on your secondary studies (if they are within the last five years).

The admissions cut-off for the Bachelor of Commerce in 2010 was 96.70, in order to meet this requirement based solely on your tertiary studies you would need a distinction to mid-distinction average. However, your secondary studies will also be taken into account.

I hope this could be of some assistance to you, if you have any further enquiries, please feel free to contact our office again.

Kind Regards,

XXXXX
FYI USYD only needs a credit average and won't take into account your ATAR if you've been at another university for more than a year.

My advice would be to try and see what you'll get credit for before completing the subjects at Macquarie. Might be a little tricky to organise but it will save you having to repeat stuff later down the track.

Hope this helps.

(Just realised this is from September but still may be useful to others in a similar situation)
