I was wondering if it's possible to transfer from a B Arts to a different degree, particularly if you chose the same subjects or majors as the course you want to transfer to? For example a B Arts to say, a B Economics or B Commerce?
If this can be done, how soon can you change?

Hi,

Assuming you are an year 12 student.

You can tranfer between ANY degree between Universites or within the same one. Subject to admission criterion and academic performance.

There are basically two key dates for transfer:

1. At mid year you may try for applying a mid-year transfer through UAC. They decided base on UAI solely.

2. Around September which you apply transfer through UAC along with the year 12 people. Decision based on half UAI and half 1st Year result.

No internal transfer AFAIK.

So if I don't recieve the UAI needed for Commerce, then there's no point in trying to transfer to it?

Even if it's a B Arts or a B social Science etc. Can it still be done? Will this mean I'll miss a whole year's work form the Commerce course?

Im pretty sure yeh. You may be able to get some credit for common subjects. I wouldn't know about that.

Wouldn't you just start off in Year 1 of the commerce degree? ie. even though it'd be your 2nd year at uni you would be a Commerce 1st year, and you'd have to do the 6 core courses.

I guess that's how it would work, one of my friends transferred after his first year (but not to commerce) and he started his new degree from scratch. But ask the uni or one of the faculties to be sure.

btw does anyone know if they look at marks or anything if i were to transfer from BCom to Commerce/arts? I think they let you in automatically but not sure

It can still be done.

As long as you complete all requirements of the degree, time is not a concern.

They do look at your marks.

I don't think they automatically let you in. But you have a high chance of adding the "/art" if you have a Cr average (which is usually the criteria for a combined/double degree)

Is it possible to take up the same subjects or core units as Commerce or Economics in an Arts degree? Thus when you apply to transfer, you've already done a semester of the same subjects, therefore you don't need to start over after transfering?

It depends. The online enrolment system sometimes is smart enough to realise that you have picked the "wrong" subjects and stop you from enrolling.

You should seriously aim for B Economics if you want to transfer to Commerce without redoing too many subjects.

However you can still follow the first year Arts major in Economics so that you can overlap some subjects as requried fro the B Comm.
