transferring from private Catholic school to selective (1 Viewer)

Is it harder to move from private Catholic schools to high ranking selective schools as compared to moving from lower ranking selective schools to higher ranking selective schools? My son is enrolled now in a Catholic school for boys after failing to get into year 7 selective. He is really disappointed with how the results turned out but he really is determined to get into his dream school. Part of me wants to discourage him because I can't bear to see him hurt again in case he does not make it again. Not that I don't have faith in him. It's just that I feel that one can still do well regardless of school.

Does anyone have experience moving from a private Catholic school to a selective school?

From what I know, selective schools don't look at your current school to determine a placement, but rather focus on like academic and stuff like that. It's good he has the motivation/determination to improve.
