Hi guys. I'm a first year student studying at UWS Bankstown - Secondary Teaching and I'm majoring in arts and English. I want to transfer to my dream uni - USYD. I contacted UAC and they told me that if i apply for USYD and start in semester 2, my ATAR and possibly my university marks will be taken into account. So, half of my ATAR will be considered, and half of my uni marks will be considered. The ATAR cut-off for USYD secondary teaching is 82.55. I got an ATAR of 62.30, and so far in uni I have 2 distinctions, 1 credit and 1 pass. What are the chances of me making it in? Please be very honest and I don't care how harsh the truth is because I really want to know!

Thanks guys.

USYD won't take into account you uni marks if you've only done one semester. However, once you have done the equivalent of one year full time at UWS you can apply to USYD and they will take your uni-results. Generally, you'll need a credit average.

Its not impossible - you may have a chance. I know a girl who received 80 and was offered a 92 ATAR course at UYSD. Plus, there aren't many applicants for secondary teaching at this point (dont have a source, but I'm speaking from experience).

You won't lose anything, just apply. If not, your GPA at the end of the year WILL get you in. Also, consider applying for UNSW too - excellent teaching course.

Good luck buddy.

But your friend was off the cut off by 12 points. I'm under the cut off by 20 points, isn't it unlikely?

Again, its not highly unlikely.

For USYD to give her 12 points was pretty cool. I reckon they would be flexible, particularly seeing as the demand for secondary teaching isn't *as* high.

I'd suggest you stick out first year and try to get at least a 70 average before applying to transfer! Although you could easily apply now and then again at the end of the year if you're unsuccessful - plenty of options :)

I would really like to get out of UWS though. That's why I was wondering what my chances are of getting an offer :-(

Very unlikely to none since they only take into account uni results after one year of full time tertiary study for your uni results to be counted.
So why not complete a full year of full-time study at UWS and get decent marks? You're chances would be much higher + USYD doesn't have mid-year entry for education anyway.

To be eligible for admission into an undergraduate degree on the basis of tertiary studies, you must have successfully completed the equivalent of at least one full-time year of study at bachelor’s degree level or higher.

That's weird because UAC told me they take into account half my ATAR and half uni marks..
If i apply for arts, do you still think I could make it?
