I'm doing B business and commerce at the moment and finding it ok (except for accounting:() BUT I really want to transfer into B psych. How do I apply for a transfer after this 1st semester? Is it through UAC or what? Also, do they take in account my UAI? Because my UAI was only a couple marks off the cutoff for psych and I fucken missed out. I really don't know what my uni marks will be like - hoping for a credit average which guarantees transfer, but what if my marks are shit? Then I'm screwed for my transfer?

Two options:

1) Guarantee Internal Transfer - gain above credit average >5.01 and you can be guaranteed a spot in the coure you want. The forms are found at the student centre.

2) Apply through UAC, probably take in account your uai as well as your marks. Have a look on the uac website.

The reason I don't want to do B Arts (Psych) or B Social Sci (Psych) is that I've heard (read somewhere?) it doesn't allow you to become a practising psychologist, unless you get offered honours (which I don't want to risk) which would then just leave me with a B Arts or B social Sci degree. Where as in the B Psych, the program is 4 years which allows you to becme a psychologist in training. If I'm wrong, let me know... because I'd be almost definitely accepted into arts or social sci (based on uai alone).

miss_gtr, if they only base 1st year transfers on UAI, how do they determine what the uai cutoff will be? I hope they don't base the transfers purely on uai.. if they do I'm probably screwed unless the cutoff falls 3 points!

This should explain better but I am sure with the guaranted course transfer scheme provided you get above credit average you will get a transfer, they dont count UAI

Social Science - Psychology specialisation (Bankstown and Penrith) - Code 4511, version 2, for students admitted in 2006.

The Psychology specialisation as outlined represents the minimum that students must complete for an APS and NSW Registration Board accredited undergraduate sequence in Psychology.

Students must satisfactorily complete 100 credit points from the units listed below and the two foundation units (Psychology: Human Behaviour and Psychology: Behavioural Science) to meet the minimum requirements for an APS and NSW Registration Board accredited undergraduate sequence in Psychology.

Students must complete the two foundation units, 101184 Psychology: Human Behaviour and 101183 Psychology: Behavioural Sciences, and the six compulsory advanced units listed below.

In addition students must take four units from Psychology Alternate Unit Pool.

Not all group units will be offered on each campus each year.

History and Philosophy of Psychology, and Advanced Survey Design and Analysis, are compulsory units for students intending to enrol in Psychology Honours programs (or a post-graduate degree in psychology).

If your just transferring within the first year, they only look at your uai i think.. so uni marks from semester 1 means nothing if you want to transfer..they only look at your uai.

If you do the Guaranteed Course Transfer at the end of semester they don't look at you uai - only your GPA which needs to be above 5.0 (credit average).

I transferred at the end of last year no problems with the Guaranteed Course Transfer scheme and all I had to do was fill out a form from the student centre - easy! You just have to get that above credit average and you'll have no problems, Im not sure of the UAI cutoff for my course but I'm pretty sure it was in the 90's and my uai was 77...

Also give the uni a call there are so many pathways to uni and ways to transfer once you have started. Oh and you better make sure about the mid year intake cuz some courses dont offer it and others the uai changes i think so you could be lucky or not... Ring UWS they'll sort you out!!

erm ... kylie, what are you doing in here? Shoo fly :p

Anyways threadstarter:
- Email the course co-ordinators of the courses and find out which one lets you be a psychologist in training.
- Guarantee Internal Transfer, like the name says guarantees you a place in oue desired course if you get a GPA above 5.01; they don't count your uai.
- If applying through uac - not only will it cost money, but it won't guarantee you a place in the course that you want, and because I assume you'll be transfering mid year, there are fewer places on offer, so UAIs might go up.
