I was reading the letter from USYD telling me (2nd year) about how to renew my student card aswell as elaborating upon the conditions of one's eligibility for travel concession. I noticed that one of the three conditions was that you had to not be employed (amongst other things). Wtf? Does this suddenly apply to anyone 2nd year or over.. cause I swear last year I got my State Transit travel concession sticker without a mention of whether or not I was employed or not. Them' Green weekly Travelpasses ain't cheap :(

yeah, that commute from North Korea is a bitch. But once you PNG its fine.

But seriously, that is complete utter bullshit. But how can they prove your working?

Just ignore it (I'm sure that there is a proper explanation, but eh). I'm sure that by engaged it merely means that you are not working on a full-time basis, but that could be wrong. However, given the number of tertiary students that work on a regular basis (the average is 14 hours per week)... As I said, just ignore it, because nobody seems to care.

Edit: Just ask the relevant bodies (the student centre, I guess, and state transit) if you want the issue to be clarified.

Edit 2: There could be an overlap of some sort given that the state transit and private concessions are not provided as one... Point 3 could only be referring to the private concessions with the three points together being produced in order to cover everything rather than network specific requirements (once again, I will be wrong).

Thanks guys.. I think I'll just rock up to the Student Centre and attempt to get one anyway. I'm doing full-time and my job is only part-time.

I don't think I can lie to them. My mum made the slightest error in filling out her Centrelink form years ago.. and now they've come back to bite me in the ass. The point I'm trying to make is.. unless I'm doing a low-key cash-in-hand job, I don't think it's worth the risk to just lie and say I'm not working. Sooner or later there's a chance you get caught and subsequently butt-raped.

They don't ask, and given that most students with a concession work as it is... It isn't something that you should be concerned with. Make a few anonymous enquiries if you are still unsure, though.
