ive just tried calculating the expenses on trains and buses!
ive calculated for my year, about $1020 on buses and trains ....

heres the calculation:

Peak hour train ticket plus bus fares to and fro uni
$5.20 + 2x $0.80= $6.80 per day....

Multiply by 5 days = $34 a week....
We go to uni about 30 weeks in the year = $1020

if youre walking from redfern, its $780.. (minus bus fares)

ive just serched online and you can get those yearly passes for $760... (apporx)... would you rather pay daily? or purchase the flexipass?(on a yearly plan)???

my weekly cost me $ 17 and there's about 13 weeks per semester so 17 x 13 = 221 and 2 semesters about 442 :D

If you purchase a monthly or beyond ticket then it is possible to get it replaced if it is lost...

I like how I am at the end of a suburban line (well, as far as you can go within the suburban area, almost), yet my weekly to Redfern is only $19.50.
Being at a midrange station isn't all that it is cracked up to be when you consider the cost of a train ticket.

Consider, buying a flexipass that lasts until the exact last day of this half-semester. In this case five weeks Thursday I think ('til Easter holidays). Buy it on Monday.

Keep the form so that is you lose the ticket you can get replacement.

This works if you come 5 days/week.

Take Kogarah to Redfern. Weekly is like 13.50. Flexipass for Monday to friday the 8th week is around 87.50. You do save roughly $20.

hey!
i found another way...

i just called up that infoline.. 131500
and i asked the best option..
he told me.. that i should get the 'pink pass' weeklys and they entitle me to as much travel in the week on trains, buses and ferries. Each week I should pay about $23.50.

if i chose the other option, say a weekly train ticket for $17 plus a 10 trip travel pass.... itd add up to $22.90

for for an extra 60c i can get the pink pass will unlimited travel...

so i think im goingto buy the pink weeklys!
