Hello!!!
I have a question for all those who have lived in NSW for sometime....how do the TravelTens work?!??!!?

During o-week, our college o-week leaders suggested us to get Brown and Blue TravelTens....and they just said "Blue for short distance, brown for long".

But what is short? and what is long???
example: going to Eastgardens fron UNSW.....going there, we asked the bus driver which colour, he said "blue". Coming back, we were told "brown".....

I'm more used to the QLD way of zone 1, 2, 3 etc....(which are sort of concentric circles, with zone 1 being the city etc)

So, is there any particular way to know if it is brown/blue tickets???

thanks!

Each travelten's colour determines how many sections you can travel on it, and depending on that.. u might have to dip it more than once.. i know maroubra to UNSW front gate is a blue travelten.. but to high street, gotta dip it twice:p of course i always forget:p

a section is about 1.6km. you can view maps of bus routes showing section points here:

http://www.sta.nsw.gov.au/timetable/printed_tt.php

i think a blue travel ten is 2 sections and a brown is 5 sections, and as far as i know, from the anzac pde bus stop, it's a brown to eastgardens, the city and bondi junction, while it's blue to coogee beach.

you can also get longer travel tens, but i don't think most college people regularly venture huge distances away. at least i know i don't usually have to.

ahh, i sort of see how the sections work now! :D....but how are we supposed to know the number of sections if we dont' have one of those maps??? do we just guess...though i suppose after a while it would become second nature if it was blue/brown....

The inspectors get on on the really steep hill going up Surry Hills sometimes. Before the sign that says 'Bus operators beware of tree'. If you've looked out the left side window then you know what I'm talking about ;)

I guess you have that attitude because you haven't been on any buses that have inspectors. This year there haven't been any so far, but in the last two years there always have been and they get on the bus on the steep hill like RC said, and they check the tickets of everyone on the bus. They check whether you have a Travelpass and student ID if its concession, and check you've dipped your TravelTen the correct number of times. Sometimes they will just make you dip it again on the spot, sometimes they pull you off the bus and give you a ticket.

I haven't been on a bus where inspectors have gotten on and didn't catch anyone. They take this alot more seriously than you think.

Just because they don't check.. does that mean you shouldn't pay for your ride??

I've never been on a bus with an inspector! But I mostly catch a bus in the city area, so thats probably why. Train on the other hand, I see them almost everyday >.<.
