Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could help me with this question. The answer is D but I am just confused on how to calculate absolute error when it doesn't even give you the actual value

you don't need actual value you can also do 1/2 x precision
so 0.1 (precision) x 1/2 =0.05

sorry I have 2 questions:
1. where did you get 0.1 from?
2. when I do 0.1 x 10 x 1/2 you get 0.5, not 0.05

1. I think the 0.1 comes from "correct to one decimal place".
2. The formula is . The measured value doesn't go into this formula, meaning the question should be solved as such:

Looked at another way, if the length is 10.0 m, that means it could be anything that would round to 10.0 m.

So, it could be 9.95 m. Or 9.962704168324689 m. Or 10.0264 m. Or anything satisfying

The absolute error is the biggest possible difference between the actual value and 10.0, which is

The precision mentioned above is the range from 9.95 to 10.05, which is 10.05 - 9.95 = 0.1, and half of it is 0.05.

By either method, the answer is D.

0.1 is the precision which is the smallest unit you can get from 10.0
so according to the formula
0.1 x1/2 =0.05

Hope that makes sense
