couple of question regarding tutoring jobs at the uni.

to become a student tutor (or pal leaders) how much, if any, of the following restrictions apply?
- marks in that subject
- marks in other subjects
- GPA
- year, ie- 2nd or 3rd
- have to have done the subject

also anyone have any experiences regarding this?

lastly, how do you "apply". especially for something like pal.

thanks! :)

i fink ur already too late for pal.

the guy who organises PAL is meant to do lecture announcement b4 end of yr...
for accg100 pal i remember u needed a high credit like 72%. u fill in a form sayn y u wanna b pal leader. then they put u in group interview. and if u get thru, most ppl dun end up having a class coz theyr timetable restricts them to take suitable times.

Pal wasn't marks based (so long as you got a Credit or above).

Back in 2003, sometime towards the end of semester 2 in ACCG101, they made an announcement for applications to be Pal Leaders for ACCG101 in 2004. If they made an annoucement in 2004, you'd know about it.

Your other more apparent problem would've been the minimum Credit grade required in ACCG100. :p

yeh but that was when i had no idea about accounting. hell, i "learnt" worksheets about 20 mins before exam! :p maybe they can overlook my 100 mark for more recent marks in accounting.

last sem i tutored a student for accg105 and he got an 80. so i am more comfortable with foundation accg.

well i got a reply from someone who works in the accg dept.

Dear Rahul,

It would be best if you emailed Alex Malley who is in charge of ACCG100
and ACCG101. Usually we would require a minimum of an honours level
before teaching undergraduate units.

Cheers

Lorne
last time i emailed alex i kinda was rude. :s

the tutor places get allocated via standing

first in line are phd students
next comes honours students
then comes the undergrads

decisions are then split on favourtism. eg if lecturer x is your honours supervisor and is in charge of unit y, you will probably have a better chance of being a tutor of unit y rather than some others honours student. after that it comes down to marks. thats how it seems to work in the comp department anyway.

redrum, alex malley doesnt do the pal thingy, its some other lady person. dont think they'll run pal again for accg100 cos not enough people turned up last year (reason - overenthusiastic actuarials didn't do accg100 anymore.. actuarials take as many extra classes for a subject as they can)

tutors as in non official-uni-tutors can charge whatever they want. what subjects do you need tutoring for? cos there are some on bos who tutor.
