Iran has influence over Iraq, so more resources for Iran. The over reaction by Trump also points towards public justification for his 'golden dome'.
India, North Korea, Russia, and China have their own nuclear programs.

I guess I'm understand where he's (trump) coming from? I'm not really sure how else you could resolve something like that, but then again I'm not an international diplomat (or am i )

like would you rather bomb the nuclear facilities or risk Iran with a bomb? I'm pretty sure most people would bomb the facilities, even if it came at an enormous diplomatic and regional-stability cost...

but yeah it does seem crazy that the way he chose to de-escalate the situation was to bomb the other side

i feel like what he's ACTUALLY trying to do is stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. I don't know if he's trying to avoid war, unless the war is a nuclear war between Iran and Israel. I still feel like the bombings could spark a war if we aren't officially considering the conflict one yet...

I dont think this is a right wing vs left wing issue, honestly the vast majority of day-to-day government decisions arent. Not everything needs to be viewed through a right vs left lens. This was a tough decision with good arguments either way.

Israel and a great many politicians, military officials, activists, analysts etc. in the US want America to go to war with Iran. By bombing Iran's nuclear facilities, this helps pacify most parties by directly dealing with the biggest ostensible issue they have with Iran, trying to get nuclear weapons, because now anyone supporting war with them can't use this as an excuse (for now, at least). And because Israel was already fighting them anyway, it's not as if Trump doing nothing would have been somehow less escalatory - there would likely be more fighting between them now than if Trump hadn't bombed them.

It has nothing to do with that. It's almost entirely to do with Israel.

They have nuclear arsenals, not simply 'programs'. The US would obviously prefer none of these countries have nukes and actively tried to stop NK getting them. But....so what? It doesn't mean that Iran developing nuclear weapons is no different to this.

Israel and Iran were already bombing each other. It's not like it was all peaceful and stable and then Trump upset everything.

The main reason people want war with Iran is because of the possibility of them getting nuclear weapons. By attacking the nuclear facilities directly and setting back their nuclear weapons program, this removes a lot of the impetus for war coming from both Israel and people in the US government and military.

This says to Iran 'stop with your shit or else', and it says to Israel and its American supporters 'we did what you wanted, now settle the fuck down'.

And I say all this as somebody who doesn't like Israel. But Trump is not a dictator and cannot do whatever he wants - he needs to make compromises and do things that other people want or else they stop his agenda entirely. And it's certainly not clear that what has happened here is a worse outcome than what would have happened if the most likely alternatives to Trump were in power instead (Republican or Democrat).

There is no conceivable way that this becomes WW3. But it wouldn't be crazier than Europeans starting WW3, because European powers were the most powerful in the world when WW1 and 2 started, whereas the US and China are today.

Honestly, it looked like a compromise he was annoyed he had to make. Just goes to show how powerful the Israel lobby is in the US. As a side note, it was hilarious watching the NYC Mayoral debate and all the candidates were asked "Where would you go on your first international trip as Mayor" and they all said Israel. Like mate, the job is running local public services, why on earth would a city mayor need to go on international trips. Need them AIPAC dollars to get elected...
