Where do we get this number, do they send it or are we supposed to already know it?

You get it after you apply with UAC.
It's usually your BOS student number with an extra "1" attached to the front

If you accelerated and already got a UAC pin don't throw away this years like i did. It is a different pin each year!!

I know my pin, the number im talking about is the first one they ask for when loging into the UAC site. From what i heard what Minai said is correct

does your application number change each year? im applying for a mid semester course but my application number apparently isnt registered?
