Thanx man, yeah i met aaron, he's pretty cool for a smart guy. They took 7 people last year, i'm not sure about this year(I only know of 4 including myself) but the maximum intake is 10. Usyd although a bit longer has a pretty good med reputation(along the calibre of melb) u should have applied-vinh applied as well and i was surprised he wasn't offerred he seemed pretty cool too. U'll still get into med at unsw but it's the scholarship(the lack of it) that drew me away from nsw as well the research at usyd so when u said u didn't apply for usyd i was surprised

yeah i just overlooked it. so do usyd look at umat at all? cos i only got 197, which is probably not enough if they do.

they don't look at umat but u have to do a written task along with the interview, plus u have to send ina CV before the interview and these combined determine whether u make it in or not( as far as i know-i didn't know too much about it till a friend recommended it for me)

The written task is pretty generic like ur hopes for the future, hobbies past activities(like prefect, community work etc-well that's what i wrote anyway. It was pretty short only like 10 mins or something,imo the CV and interview would have been worth the most, like the written wouldn't have been worth much but it gave an impression to the interviewers on ur personality, outlook etc).

yeah the interview would have been big. but i did a bit of research and it says u have to maintain an 80 average throughout the course. so that added bit of pressure should probably keep u on your feet. but of course the 70 grand is worth it.

Okay, I thought I owed it to this guy to endorse him (after my frivilous admonishment on copying threads) I'm such a git

So, what can I say about Kaivan after a few conversations on MSN with him? I am willing to bet my mind; body and soul that this guy will get your the marks you need; whether in geography, mathematics or quantum physics 101. And I'll tell you why.

Firstly, his knowledge in the humanities far excedes my own. We both have similar political views (being somewhere between left and centre) and a passion in reading and writing (only person willing to actually read my Extension 2 major work!) - So, from Global environments, to Indian History and Marxism-Leninism, Kaivan will cause a shift in perspective (inner journeys it is!) He will educate you in things you probably have missed (like Manabendra Nath Roy) and show you not only the what but the WHYand HOW. (NB: Okay, it's true he only told me about Nath Roy, it was Wikipedia filled in the rest). Lol. He is also into conspiracy theories; economics and has a very critical and logical mind. Hence he is not only analytical but creative - what you would call the "package" - very well read man indeed! (Plus, he's into motorbikes and the cricket!) Thus, he is an ideal tutor for social interaction and Geography, German or English, or anything which involves an open and thought-provoking mind!

Secondly, they say the fact speak for themselves. This is true of course is untrue. They are only true when one sees it for themself. This is most true of Kaivan. Not only does Kaivan exemplify a person who knows his stuff inside-out, he appears to have a quality I don't in mathematical tutoring - He's willing to tolerate other view points AND create empathy with other people until they DO understand what he is preaching. But beside this rapport I noticed those marks, VERY impressive are a result of something more - He doesn't strike me as a jealous type - but as someone who is willing to SHARE his knowledge and skill. And to you kiddies I say, take advantage of it! Finally, and perhaps, most importantly, he has a GREAT SENSE OF HUMOUR.

Moreover, I have to admit some things. YES I am a socialist so I rather you choose hard-working Kaivan over a snobby tutor from SHORE (sorry, couldn't resist!); YES I am a prick at times and therefore diametrically opposed to Kaivan (I thinK?); YES he can laugh at everything and great person to gossip to about people I don't like (ha); YES his rates are VERY low for someone of his communication skill; YES he is the epitome of academica, minus the arrogance, and plus the knowledge in music and sport; but he's also liberal-minded and a 1-on-1 kinda guy (ignore the pun).

So, get in quick before he fills up his quota of students. He's so great; hes a campaign slogan! If anyone needs a mentor to top the HSC, no matter there walk of life; I think you will become somewhat enlightened and erudite as a result of Kaivan.

ok awesome. i'm glad we're over our 'frivolous admonishments'. man i love these two-worders. like 'economic pontifications'. but anyway, thanks heaps for that. personally, i can assure u that my knowledge in humanities is no where near that of yourself, but i try to read up on things that interest me as much as possible. more politics and psychology than philosophy.

kids, if u need tutoring in history or english, or if you need someone to expound your philosophies, political theories or anything remotely academic to, no one really hits the spot better than the spadijer.

To be completely honest i don't see the reasoning behind that statement, ext2 maths is a bell curve and ppl get 90+ pretty easy-besides that would mean no one or only one person would get high distinction. Besides the guy topping the degree should be getting 90's and so there'd be quite a few in the eighties.

will do! and i'm sure everyone who does usyd med will get 80+. i mean they wouldnt keep it at that if only a few ppl get above 80. that would be just cruel. 99.95/100 UAI and you're kicked out of a course and left with a straight science degree.

Firstly, yes, its true - I wasn't serious - I just thought I'd make a silly argument and see who was willing to by it *sigh* BUT BUT something good do come of it - Indeed, 'economics pontifications' sounds quite rad... Must be the assonance of the 'o' sound Lol. (NB: Shoot me if I ever use metalanguage ever again!)

Secondly, I love the word 'expounds' and I also thank you for those kind words on my tutoring thread - It's been a while since we've had our MSN discussions... While I feel your pain about people saying 'uhhh...whats liberal humanism' and 'dude, you're gonna get assasinated' - I usually get: "Um bro, how do you spell democracy?" and "I'm gonna kill you, you leftie" (Quite a bogan school). So, yep, thanks again, and I look forward more to our political views (Is your MSN dead? ). Oh and I'm currently reading some John Rawls - hit him up!
