I also thought that considering most people know Macquarie as a Business Institution that the UAI would remain the same, no idea that it would drop.

But this could be because more spaces are opened due to newer facilities or because the class of 05 are just dumb. :p

Pfft B psychology (hons) is the same in both 05 & 06 [94.05]

I probably wouldn't have got in if it had gone up at all..

good course (appfin is great), although a fair few people do it...get good grades in first year, so IF you don't like it you can transfer to something you do like...

If u think ours was bad, heres a few ones from the others.

1.) Its easier to get into UNSW economics than Macq
2.) UWS LAW: 94 down to 90 down to 85, so its easier to get into there than Macq economics.

First year accounting is fairly dry... If you havn't done any before *like me* then you'll find that you have to do a fair bit of homework, especially for Accounting 1a and 1b.

There's also econ (110 = macro, 111 = micro), statistics, applied finance (like 2U maths), etc.

I would definately say that the second year is much more interesting (although I didn't do much work in 1st yr so my experience with those subjects is somewhat jaded... lol)

The best thing about Accounting is that you will get the best lecture times in the whole uni. All those international full fee paying students sure do come in handy... u'll be fine... just enjoy uni life.

edit: Does anyone know where (or if) I can find the Non-recent school leaver cutoffs? thanks

UNSW took some big hits as well. 93 for Commerce at UNSW...like wtf? First time I can recall that Commerce had a higher cut-off at USYD.

It seems USYD has been steadier than the others.

I think some of this has to do with less International students coming to Australia...and UNSW (with their HK cohort) and MQ (with all those Beijing students) were able to increase numbers for locals as a result. You can bet UNSW and MQ are pissed that they have to open up more spots to locals (no fees, lowers the cut-off).

I thought fee paying spots were additional on top of the HECS spots?

In terms of infrastructure, academics, etc, the uni can take a certain number of students. Macquarie chooses to take on quite a few internationals (as opposed to USYD for e.g.), but recently, interest has been waning from international students which frees up spots in courses. As a result the uni opens up more spots in accounting, actuarial etc for locals to meet the numbers. I'm not saying this is the only factor, but one major factor in declining UAI cut-offs, espcially for Commerce related courses at MQ and UNSW.

That and the class of 2005 were significantly 'dumber' overall
