Are your aligned marks the ones you get before they're scaled?

Are they just the marks you get in the actual exam or are they something different?

:(

Yep! You are told your aligned marks by the Board :)
But then they (your aligned marks) are scaled to work out your UAI...

Aligned marks are calculated by averaging your school assessment marks and your marks for the HSC exam...
Raw marks are scaled (up/down) to get aligned marks...

Im pretty sure thats right :p

That's not right :p

UAC takes your raw marks and scales it to work out your UAI from the aggregate of all your scaled marks of the best 8 units + 2 units of english.

Refer to the following flowchart.

Hard to estimate when not only do you never know your raw marks, but you never know your scaled marks either. But technically, the raw mark is always scaled down except for a few subjects and extension subjects.

A raw mark of 80 can be scaled down anywhere to 70-79

Aligning will be typically upwards.

Getting those marks as raw marks is very good.

But most will probably only increase by 1-3 marks only.

I dun get it...
I thought that the school sends the Board the scaled marks for a particular subject?
Where did raw marks come into this?

Read the flowchart and you will see how the raw marks are used.

The raw mark you get in the HSC exam + the raw mark from your moderated assessment mark are averaged and results in your raw HSC mark. (Note: the raw moderated assessment marks come from the pool of marks your class gets from the HSC exam).

This raw HSC mark is scaled, and this scaled mark is used to determine your UAI.
