Right, it's obviously UMAT time when people start sending me PMs, emails, and anything else twice a day. This is a thread for all the people with UMAT experience to give their tips - inasero, pointdexter, all the other meds I'm looking at you.

If you haven't done UMAT yet, but have heard some great tips, feel free to post them. I'll refute or delete all the rubbish anyway.
  • Get a good night's sleep
  • Eat a good breakfast
  • Go to the toilet BEFORE the exam starts (ie in the time while waiting for registration to finish) - don't be ashamed to empty your bowels, since none of you will have bedpans.
  • Like surgery, it is not as important that you finish quickly as get the job done. Speed should be an accomplishment, not an ambition.
  • For the shapes: TURN YOUR HEAD (or turn the page around).
  • For the sequences: count things, look for numerical patterns.

That's all I can think of as I rush to dinner, I might add more later. Good luck!

Stress less - some stress can be useful to focus you onto peak performance in any exam, but too much and you turn into a slobbering mess. A good frame of mind will help you show your best aptitude (it's a test of aptitude not regurgitating!). All the best :).

yep i think the only tips i can give at this point in time is to stress less, because stressing out about the UMAT is likely to do you more harm than not having prepared beforehand...

yep and mervyn is right, good to have a bit of stress but not too much, as per the stress-performance diagram:

another tip i guess is to stay well hydrated because that will improve oxygenation to the brain, thus relieving physical and mental fatigue and chew peppermint gum or better still, those listerine strips.

like lexi said, turn the booklet round wen doing the shapes, don't be embaressed or anything

my booklet was going round like a windmill for section 3
and for section 2, try and be as objective as possible, my real life social context screwed me up for that one (probly for the better)

sect 1 read the questions before the passage

Nah it's for the blind old gargoyles to check every scrap of ID, and cause as many SGHS girls to cry for forgetting their passport as possible. :p

No, but I was very interested in his SIII.
Unfortunately, he finished in 20 minutes and fell asleep.
On his answer sheet.

Last year quite a few people from Ruse screwed up the section on relationships etc, he probably got stuck after 20 minutes on the part that tested his EQ. "That's IT, I'M DOING COMM/LAW!"
