I am interested in a career in Medicine (specifically Psychiatry) and I would like to start with a simple question - what is an Undergraduate degree which would be easy to gain a GPA of 5 (or more) in? I will be applying for Medicine as a graduate.

I would most like to do a B.Sc majoring in Physics, simply because it interests me, but I do not meet the Maths requirements (as I did not complete the HSC, instead I completed a University Foundation Studies course at SCU - a year 12 equivalent) and I imagine gaining a GPA of 5 + would be considerably difficult. Another option I've considered is doing a BMedSci/BBioMedSci - another difficult degree.

The options I see for myself are to complete a tertiary Maths course (Maths B and perhaps C and even Physics) in order to meet the entry requirements of most Science degrees, enroll in another Science degree and transfer or enroll in a B.A and select Maths as my major and transfer when appropriate.

Also, are there any Universities which offer entry to Medicine based on UMAT/interviews as opposed to the ATAR/UMAT combination?

Those are the options which I'm aware of, however I would like the input here as to what may be an acceptable route for myself.

Thank you.

I suggest you ring up the universities you intend to do your undergraduate degree and see if they would make acceptions sometimes they do. GPA of 5 is actually pretty easy to get and in order to be competitive in graduate medicine entry I would recommend a GPA of 6 or higher.

I know of someone currently doing an undergraduate degree in psychology and they're intending on transferring to medicine... If you're interested in psychiatry, this is a good way to go because physchology covers mental illness, psycho-analasis, etc.

well UNCLE has a ATAR hurdle of 94.3 (iirc) so everyone who gets above that is considered equivalent. it is then purely based on ur UMAT and interview. if you didnt reach this hurdle then i would imagine that starting tertiary study would be the best option.
