Ladies and Gentlemen,
It's time we set up a Student Union, we are the future of the world in which we have no say. Our degrees just got more expensive which Law and Economics degrees going up to around $14 000, and general degrees being cheaper, the reason being that these degrees offer a clearer and more direct path into a job. Like since when was a lawyer or economist or anything in finance not relevant? But a Maths and English degree supposedly have a direct path into a job. Really?

Be more inclusive you forgot to include the Magikarps 😭

But yes, that's such a stupid revamp and that they should give notice rather than announcing it at the top of Parliament.

The changes in law/business/arts fees are intended to deter people from going into such areas of study which are usually oversubscribed. However, it doesn’t really make sense for an individual to pick a degree based on the pricing as HECS is a deferred payment that just sorta slips out of your tax. Nobody is choosing to do a BA because it’s currently 6.8k a year, just like how the aforementioned arts students are not suddenly going to jump to maths and teaching degrees because they’re capped at 3k a year, so there’s little rationale behind the proposed fee changes.

Dunno I kind of agree with it. There's honestly too many lawyers and economists, and the market is oversaturated.

Understood, but how does a GENERAL Maths/English/Science degree provide a DIRECT pathway as Fed. Education Minister Dan Tehan stated?

And if Tech is the way of the future, how come IT and Cybersecurity, in which a shortage is always reported, a Tier 2 course. If its the future, it should be Tier 1?

Well yeah the market is oversaturated with people with those types of degrees, thus making it harder for them to find jobs in the future. The government is trying to incentivize people to get into different career paths.

Most industries are over-saturated. And then there's the jobs that we are supposed to train for that don't exist yet.
