The New HSC was designed to ELIMINATE the bell curve system - hence "performance bands". The entire basis for assessment is your performance relative to the Standards, not relative to your peers.

the uai is a comparison against other students but, and that is what gets you into uni. so many things good/bad about the way the hsc is assessed, but in the end wtf can we do about it..

Yeah however your marks are not determined by comparing you against other students, which is what Lexi's trying to say

Yeah that's what I meant. In the old days they did, but the BOS moved away from that because it's bullshit. The UAI, well, not much they can do about that because uni entry is all ABOUT relative performance. The unis want to know if you're better than Lin Wang down the street, so they rank you.
