The Union ballot paper shall read as follows:

Alice Dixon
Ruchir Punjabi
Justin Hancock
Abi Shead
Dave Burnett
Erin Turner
Phil Thai
Justin Simon
Vivian Nichols

This year there are six positions on offer, and a requirement that at least three of those be filled by females. Voting is open to anyone who signs up to the Union for free, and membership forms can be found at the ACCESS centre in Manning house.

I'm going to vote for Punjabi, seeing as he took the time to post on BOS. :)

i decided not to run due to time issues, but now i wish i had. i know phil thai and i dont think he'll run a very strong campaign (as he does seem to be into politics). Furthermore, a 6/9 chance is really good. I probably wouldn't have needed to campaign apart from doing some postering and occasional lecture-bashing.

Last year it was 5/7 and we still managed to get owned because everyone else ran really strong campaigns. This year there are 2 Liberals, 2 NLS, 1 Trot and 1 Unity who I know will be going really hard, then you've got Justin Hancock who I presume is being run by Tanner, and Erin Turner (or Vivian. Whichever one isn't NLS, I can't remember) who I honestly don't know much about.

I think that unless you have really effective posters and 9-5 staple-gun people they're not going to make an impact on many people, it comes down to who has the links to the bigger societies and/or colleges and most importantly what kind of presence you have on the day.

Fuck, did you have to put your thing in already?

Is it too late for me to enter the running?

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread

Justin Simon (myself), Abi Shead = Liberals.
Ruchir, Vivian = Labor Left
Dave = Labor Right/Jewish students
Alice = Far left
Erin = Dramatic society
Justin Hancock, Phil Thai = Tanner's ticket (I think)

I'll post my policy statements and a link to my campaign website next week when campaigning officially starts, and I'm sure you'll see paraphenalia from the others around campus as well.

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread

i don't know if this helps but i've met ruchir once and seems like a great guy. i feel like he is the classic candidate this election(like rose k. last year) especially because of the work he's done in the past including stuff with union this year. and i read this the other day > http://www.usyd.edu.au/news/international/226.html?newsstoryid=1621

i am particularly interested in seeing his policies. can we ask him to post here?

ps. didn't know he was factionally aligned. though i'd vote for him either ways.

There's an embargo on soliciting votes or campaigning more than 23 days prior to the election, so after Monday next week policy can be discussed.

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread

Erin Turner has been disqualified due to a lack of valid nominators, and so this means Abi, Vyvyan and Alice are elected by default to the 3 positions which must be filled by women under AA.

The ballot paper shall now read:
Ruchir Punjabi
Justin Hancock
Dave Burnett
Phil Thai
Justin Simon

From these five males, three shall be elected to the board.

Isn't it sort of a problem that the AA rule implies that a board fully or mainly comprised of men must be avoided at all costs, but that a board fully or mainly comprised of women is totally fine?

Re: The Official Union Board Elections 2007 Thread

freaking hell, i'm so sick of this feminist equality bullshit. i don't see why there must be 3 women on the board, i think it should be the best qualified. Triangulum, you make a good point, people should be elected on their merits, not because zomg men r so ev1l and 0ppressive so lyke we must have womynz.
