As a gesture of transparency, UNSW has now published a tool to provide prospective students additional information about ATAR acceptance statistics based on S1-2016.

For each course, it lists:

  • Listed first round cut-off
  • Max, Min, Median ATAR
  • Lower/Upper Quartile ATAR
  • Avg bouns marks
  • Total offers (breakdown by school leavers, pathways, etc.)

https://www.futurestudents.unsw.edu.au/admission-unsw

I've also collated this as a spreadsheet... people may find that more accessible and useful.

When UNSW med's upper quartile is 99.85 lol
It's like they take up half the people who get 99.95, 99.9

Going back a few months when SMH posted up how uni's are accepting HSC school leavers with ATARs as low as 30, remember how they said there was one student who got into UNSW combined law with 67 ATAR? On the UNSW stats website it says otherwise for the minimum ATAR (93 or something?, i don't know, can't load the page now for some reason). Both sources said that it's the 2016 data.

It makes you wonder where SMH even got their stats/data from, I was surprised then if anyone would release it.

atleast that keeps my hopes alive lmao

edit: just realised it could be aboriginal student and they have different pathway...
Yeah, they do have a different pathway, it's like pre-med where they attend the program for 4 weeks- https://rcs.med.unsw.edu.au/indigenous-entry-medicine. I guess ATAR can be used as a 'benchmark'!

Or alternatively they could be rural + have EAS I think. 2 of my rural friends in med have 92 ATAR :)

UNSW cut off for Law is like 99.65/99.7 but the median atar is like 98.45 :l

If he had all the grades going for him (this 99.95 kid you're talking about), he must have a real shit personality to not get accepted.

As a doctor, you're working with patients literally all day, you cannot afford to NOT have good people skills.

UNSW med enrollment process does involve an interview as well though from memory.

UNSW requires 99.95 to have around 70%ile UMAT to get an interview.
Maybe s/he forgot to sit UMAT?

I've seen this from personal experience.

A friend of mine got 99.9 & 100 UMAT but bombed the interview completely.

He's now doing Actuarial Studies.
