if we get an estimate of 99, do we get a first round interview, provided that one gets a good UMAT score? also, does the estimate really matter?

Interesting question. What if you don't go through that path with the estimate thing yet you achieve a good UMAT score and ATAR that satisfies their requirments? Do you get the interview?

if atar estimate+umat > cutoff => interview, but if actual atar+umat < cutoff => eliminated
if estimate +umat < cutoff, but actual+umat > cutoff => 2nd round interview

I find it really hard to understand how they use estimated ATAR for first round interviews, given the increments of the ATAR's available is one whol ATAR point!

Like, if ur estimate isnt smack bang close to 100, the next best thing is 99.. wth? Wont there be a gazillion UNSW hopefuls with a 99 estimate?

yes? if ur estimate is 98 u will need a umat of 95%ile. if its 97 99%ile (top 1%). anything below, u will need to get a high 100%ile, which is highly unlikely since there is some correlation btw umat and atar. but if u do get an estimate of 97 and below, u should just hope ur actual atar is higher or just focus in UNCLE and UWS.

99 percentile u will probably need about high 80s. if u get 100 estimate then i would say 80 is enough. the table on the UNSW med faculty site is a pretty good guide. it changes every year.
