Hey, my friend told me that regarding transferring to medicine in unsw, the only way you can transfer to medicine is if you take Biomed and then get accepted into med in 4th year. She also said that this is the ONLY way to transfer to med in unsw. Is this true? I thought you could transfer from certain courses as long as you achieved the required gpa/umat?

Coz i was thinking to doing psychology in unsw and then transferring to medicine after 1st year, but now my friend tells me that i can only transfer if i do biomed...

WHAT IS TRUE?????

help, coz i'm currently applying for my uni courses, and i need to finalise what to choose. :bomb:

It's not a direct transfer you apply to start the Med course at UNSW, you should of went to the open day this was explained in the med lectures, they calculate your GPA for first year psychology and use ur uai in a 50/50 ratio in ur applicaiton also you might need to redo umat if it's low.

www.med.unsw.edu.au[/url])
Submit a “Medicine Application Form” (download form from Faculty of Medicine website)
Sit the UMAT examination (if applicant does not have scores from an attempt in the previous 2 years)
Apply to UNSW Medicine through the Universities Admissions Centre (www.uac.edu.au)
Applicants will be selected for interview in the September of year 2 of their degree, on the basis of BMedSc results to date (weighted average mark) and UMAT score. Additional applicants may also be selected for interview early in the following January. Note that the interview will differ from that undertaken by applicants in the other categories of entry.

This entry pathway leads to the offer of a provisional place and is subject to completion of all the other requirements for the BMedSc with Honours plus additional coursework as prescribed. Further details on the graduate entry stream.

yeah, don't worry, i already know that it's not a direct transfer. I just wasn't sure if i was able to transfer from psychology or not.

Well, previously i HAD 'KNOWN' that i could transfer from psych, but then my friend told me that the ONLY way to transfer is through Medsci, so that's why i was unsure.

and i don't live in sydney, so it's kinda hard for me to go to all those uni days. :mad1:

edit: thanks for that chunk of info, though. =)

as far as i was aware, as long as you have had a killer UAI and pretty much get all HDs at uni, it doesn't matter what course you do before the transfer. you could do an arts degree and swap over if your marks are good enough.
