Is anyone thinking of applying for entry to the UoW GSM? The first student intake will be next year.

From their website there's a few entry criterira:

• Strong results in a Bachelor level degree
• A GPA of atleast 5.0
• Strong results in GAMSAT
• A portfolio
• Success in the interview
• Demonstrated ties to regional communities

They'll be taking 80 students in the initial intake (72 domestic, 8 international)


I'm thinking of applying at the end of my MedPhys degree, hopefully to specialise in Oncology.

I thought about it...I had the required GPA, just would've had to sit the GAMSAT and go from there. But, Im not that keen. Don't think I want to do that much uni. But good luck to you mate.

Let's hope you've got ties to a rural community then, since I hardly consider Sutherland/Wollongong very rural (though Sutherland is about as rednecked as rural communities are [wrongly] believed to be).

There is the option of other unis too

especially if u dont have a rural focus/experience.. but rural schools are the best cos rural medics are more resourceful than city one.. its the greatest challenge there is.

btw u dun specialise till lik 3-7 yrs after u complete the bachelors in medicine.. so ure in for a long ride.

Studying at the University of Wollongong will also contribute towards your ability to demonstrate ties with a regional community in your portfolio, especially if you can demonstrate involvement with community and/or University activities.

Hopefully completing a degree at UoW will count as that tie to a regional community. Anyway, I plan to move to the South Coast later this year.

Yeah, looks like a very long ride to specialise.

Since its a Graduate course u spend alot of time at hospital not the school
so i accreditation is more important.. so i think they will be ready
