Ok well first to the person above.
How is this in the wrong section? its biology.
And the english is correct. i understood it.
She is simply asking what contributions they made in the hypothesis.
im not entirely sure if this is right or not but i think it may be that they showed that amino acids, nucleic acids and other simple organic molecules could be combined naturally under primordial conditions. Miller hypothesized that a mixture of water, methane, ammonia and hydrogen resembled the atmosphere of early earth.
There is probably way more detail to it than that and again im not sure if thats right but yea.

Hey there is loads of stuff about the Urey/Miller experiment on the net. As JanD said the experiment showed that organic molecules could form from inorganic molecules and this is important as it is the first step towards life. I would recommend you google this topic, you will find loads of information on it!!

Oh and samthebear - don't be such a hater, this forum is so people can help each, not rip on each other

The Urey-Miller experiment proved a section of the Oparin-Haldane hypothesis in which organic chemicals could be spontaneously generated due to the conditions of earth millions of years ago. The experiment was conducted by Miller who was an undergraduate student with Urey as his supevising professor. The experiment was a simplified representation (or renactment) of the environmental conditions believed to have existed many years ago with many scientific apparatus used to contained chemical species believed to have existed millions of years ago, electric sparks were simplification of lightning weathering conditions. The conclusion of the experiment was that production of organic chemical species could be spontaneously produced from the conditions which existed millions of years ago.
