c1V1=c2V2 relate to and how is it used?
I think it is used when you dilute a substance and try to find c1 or V1 or c2 or V2

you use it if you have a given number of moles in a substance, and you want to find the concentration after adding some amount of water etc., or the required volume to give a certain concentration

the reasoning for it is:
concentration = number of moles per unit volume (definition)
C1 = n1/V1
C1V1 = n1
and
C2 = n2/V2
C2V2 = n2

but since you haven't added any more moles of the substance, n1 = n2
so C2V2 = C1V1
