It's because there is no need to brake the force into its vertical and horizontal components when you are already given its PERPENDICULAR distance from the place you are taking moments about, in this case A. Haven't i already said that like 8 times? a moment is a force times its perpendicular distance, that is where they interdsect at right angles.

Give me an example of the distance NOT being the perpendicular distance.

Do you mean like in the picture I posted? Because that is the only other way (that I can think of) that the distance can be represented.
