Okay I'm really stuck on the order i should put this course in - B Business & Commerce/ B Laws @ UWS

My first preference is B Business/ B Science in IT @UTS but i recieved a letter today from UWS explaining the Triple Advantage Scheme, which would give me an extra 10 points meaning that i could do B Business & Commerce/B Laws even if i get a uai of 80.

I've always had a keen interest in B Business/B Laws and i wanted to do this course at UTS but due to recent results I've had to aim lower (B Business/ B Science in IT 84 uai) and im happy with that decision.

Right now my top 4 preferences looks like this:

1. B Business/ B Science in IT @ UTS (I've decided that this will remain)
2. B Business @ UTS
3. B Science in IT @ UTS
4. Possibly B Business & Commerce/ B Laws @ UWS

So basically I'd like to get some opinions on whether or not it would be a good idea to put the UWS course at number 3 or 4 or NOT AT ALL.

Right now i just want the pros and cons and i'd like some opinions on, which course would be a better option career wise (UTS pref or UWS pref?), about the unis, social aspect of each uni etc. Although i would like to go to UTS more than UWS.

So far people have told me to go to UTS because UWS is crap and the social scene is non-existent (although i think they're bias) and yeah. I'd just like some honest opinions.

Did that make any sense?
Thanx in advance :)

UWS does not have a social scene at all. People drive in and drive home. Law is at Parramatta which is probably the best campus, but, it looks like a minimum security prison.

In the UAC guide book it says that the UWS course is offered at the Campbelltown campus. Do i have to go to Parramatta to do the law component of the course?

My brother went to UWS Campbelltown - he said it was a shit house socially.

Which would be better career wise? Doesn't matter. Graduate with high honours and it doesn't matter what Uni you went to.

Which is better socially? I can't speak for UTS, but whoever said UWS has no social scene is being ignorant. You have classes with people just as at any other University. I've met plenty of great people in my time there. If you aren't a social retard, you'll make friends no matter what Uni you go to. I'm based at Kingswood campus. Nothing really overly exciting there, but I go to Uni to learn and to a lesser extent to socialise. Both of these can be done at UWS to the same extent they can at any other Unis.

Also, whichever Uni is closer would be fair grounds for your decision. Personally I chose UWS over all other unis because it is geographically convenient to me. And I'm pleased with the choice I made. Allows for much less realibility on public transport which is a good thing in my books.

Base your decision on what course you want to do, not what uni you want to go to. If you want to do Business/Law, then put that ahead of any other course that other unis offer. The first thing that employers look at is your qualifications (if you have the wrong ones, it basically doesn't matter where you went to uni, because you won't be qualified)

Also, the social aspect of a uni is the least important thing when deciding on a uni (uni is for education, have fun with your friends in your own time. It's not like anyone needed a thriving social scene in school to make friends)

On what basis do they make the assumption that UWS is crap? If its because few CEOs went to UWS, there is a good reason for that. It didn't exist till 1989 and it wasn't structured into one university till 2001

There is 100% no social scene at uws that I know of, as jb_nc has said.. people drive in then they drive home.

As much as i'd love to do business law, i've made my mind up on b business/b sci in IT at UTS - i like what i've read about the course so far and i've always wanted to go to UTS. Several people i've spoken to have said, its better if i do b business at UTS and then transfer to the double degree over UWS. I don't think UWS is that bad, but I've heard too many negative things about UWS to actually be sure of anything. :)

Nowhere in my post did i say i was basing my uni preferences on the social aspect. I wanted honest opinions about the unis overall.

They all went to UWS & some are still attending.

I got an idea,

1 . Dont go on this forum until you have done all your hsc exams so you can get a better uai

2. Don't think about issues like this until you have got your uai; main round closes in janurary
I've made my mind up. UWS is my third pref.

Thanks for all the advice guys :D

What do you wanna do more, business or IT

Because you can transfer after a year into uts law
Business but I'm interested in IT, so it works out. :)

I considered the option of transferring but from what I've researched + what people have told me - I need distinctions throughout, a good gpa and an extremely solid personal statement. After all that, it's not guaranteed so i don't want to take the chance.

I'm not sure how transfers work so I'm taking in everything i read and hear. Some of it might be incorrect but meh.

Have you factored in the possibility that you won't get high enough marks to transfer into the B Business/B Laws at UTS or another uni? Would you be content on doing B Business/B IT in that case?

If I get into B Business/B Sci in IT - I wont be transferring to another course. I'm quite happy with this as my first pref and I'm looking forward to getting started. :D

Thanks for all the help :)
