Actually, comp sci, comp eng, and s/w eng almost do basically the same subjects in first year.

Actually at USYD, comp Eng and Soft Engo do exactly the same units in first year, and computer sci can choose to do the same units but does not have too..in addition there are many other subjects comp sci can choose to do that s/e ppl cant do cos all our subjects are chosen for us.

The only reasonable choice for comp sci / software eng in Sydney is UNSW.

Hell, it probably has the best school in Australia.

Any facts to back this up? Not that it couldnt be true, by all reports UNSW does have an excellant degree program though. UTS/USYD might have one thats just as good. Although i have to admit, first year USYD is probably not as good as first year UNSW. Although UNSW only has one or two electrical courses throughout the degree whereas USYD has lots..

I'd have to agree.

During my camp at usyd we were programming in Madsen - the server would crash every hour or so the night before the project was due, and being terminals, every computer in Madsen went dead when the servers rebooted.

from the 'Good Uni Guide 2004' book,

Engineering

Uni - average starting salary - seeking work

UTS - $42,738 - 4%
UNSW - $41,921 - 9%
USYD - $40,114 - 15%

Computing ad IT

Uni - average starting salary - seeking work

UTS - $50,172 - 4%
UNSW - $41,285 - 21%
USYD - $42,246 - 23%

'seeking work' shows the proportion of 2000 graduates who wanted a full time job and were still looking in April 2001.

taking this point of view, i would say UTS all the way, especially when im looking at eng/sci course, however im most likely going to end up in UNSW because it looks alot more open and social over there.

$50k is not a low STARTING salary. Med grads only start at $45k, and they work twice as many hours a week.
