Take the video card back out, and see if Windows boots normally (albeit in 16 colours probably). If it does, then either the card was not installed properly, or is defective.

This is most likely a problem with your video drivers. Start your computer in safe or VGA mode by tapping the F8 button while it boots. Now go to the Device Manager then "Display Adaptors". Right click your video card and click uninstall. Allow the computer to restart and try reinstalling your drivers on the boot. If this doesn't work, you may need to use that application which removes all traces of previous drivers.

I had this problem not long ago. At first the computer would randomely restart and it eventually progressed so that the computer restarted on boot up. This all happened after I upgraded from my MX440 to a FX5200 while only installing the new drivers over the old. So the lesson of the day is, uninstall your existing drivers BEFORE you replace your hardware :D.

All current NVidia GPUs use the same driver, so if you have something new it shouldn't matter (same with ATI)

Yeh, i know that, but I downloaded and installed the newest drivers at the time of upgrading the card. This was without uninstalling the old drivers; something that is known for causing problems occusaionally. So regardless, removing the installed drivers and starting over may still IP... we can hope.

It would be easier to find what the problem if you (when in safe mode) set windows to display a blue screen of death instead of automatically rebooting. This can be found by right clicking My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Start up and recovery settings > Uncheck "automatically restart". Next time the p[rblem occurs write down what the orror message says and try googling it (leaving out all the long digit strings).

Indeed. Been there, done that. Installed drivers over old ones on my older computer some time ago (TNT2), decided it would reboot into 16 colours @ 640x480. That was fun. However nice to see both ATI and nVidia have picked up their game with this issue.

IP_freely: I meant to mention this to you this morning, did you install the card yourself? Or was it installed by a store/friend ? If it was installed by a computer store, you should be able to take it back and show them that it now doesn't work.
