hi there,

i actually don't have a problem with understanding this topic, just a simple bit of algebra/indices (yup, i'm a noob)

question:

The area below the graph y = 1/x in the first quadrant and between x = 1 and x = 4 is rotated about the x axis...find the volume blah blah blah

alright, i know how to set it out, and i know that i need to make y into y squared. also, i know that my other "line" is the x axis too, since it needs to be in the first quadrant.

anyway, how can i get y^2? when changing y = 1/x to y=x^-1, when i square both sides, does it become y^2 = x^-2?

Sorry for the noob question, but thanks in anticipation

Also, you can use the latex editor down there .

It is easier to use the editor when you don't have a good command of the code, as it has a graphical interface.
