Ok, i've read and heard from other uni's, but as of yet, i've yet to hear too much info as to which services will die once VSU arrives. Namely concerned with SAM and a little thing called Conception Day.

I dont care at all about either. SAM does nothing for us, they give us a card that gives us a few discounts at some places (generally the discounts we get are more than those given at uni), make that "the word" magazine and... yeah. Thats it. I really dont think things will change that much with SAM gone because they didnt do much in the first place. I can think of better ways to spend the $170 I give them in fees. The builing wont change; food will still be outsourced and we'll have to pay that extra .30 (wow, see the saving we get being members?! ) for our food. The only difference will be that the big, red SAM will be pulled off the building.

Not fussed about conception day either. I dont think its all that its cracked up to be. I'm a fan of JJJ music and similar, but meh. Didnt float my boat in the slightest.

Will be glad not to give the gym money, and the SRC equiv. that we have. They too, do nothing.

The reason other uni's have been more passionate about the whole thing, and wanting to keep uni fees compulsory is because they have student bodies that *do* things! I think thats why a lot of them get defensive when I say that I want VSU because we get next to nothing for our $400 odd a year.

Generally, if VSU is introduced, I will be a happy chappy! :D

Haha, let me rephrase my comment, IF they fuck with Conception Day, there'll be hell :)

Lol -- I doubt they'll do anything to conception day. In the end I think it's quite profitable. Even the highly-patriotic Sydney Uni students concede that it's the best uni 'parties' in sydney, and that their own uni's pale in comparison... Simply the number of studnets from other unis, who take a day off and come to MQ instead, should indicate that, too. What it'll probably mean in the end is that MQ students will just have to pay entry like every other student...

...my post didn't work and was lost, so I'll summarise here: VSU is going to be good, for MQ, but I don't know about other unis. In the end, if I had to choose, I'd vote against it -- but only for the benefit of students at other universities. From a totally MQ-based view, it'll be good.. it seems to me like USU allows the minorities to benefit at the cost of the majoirty... (I have some rough logic to explain that, but I'll only do that if anyone's interested because it's rather boring economic stuff. ;) )

Not all classes are off, I agree, VSU will probably be neglible at best at MQ since SAM is operating as if its already in action, i think Phil told us that.
