its not as rough as say..sydney uni, i mean their fees are wtf!!!
i dont mind paying fees if it is to a good cause and their are benefits to it but its still a cost. if it was cheaper, the better cost wise...but services? the foo disnt that great to me, and ive seen some overdue food still on sale [dont buy the vege pasties!!! @ parra and check the dates of th ejuices!]

what about you? your opinion?

against it...

if its voluntary. no one will pay so costs will go up unbelievably...

its only 182 a semester i mean... i pay more for books for one unit alone...

if it's voluntary, logically, the uni will not be able to have "union member prices" and "non union member prices" coz that may be seen as discriminatory

so either the prices will go up for everyone by a lot... or they'll stay the same and those who don't pay fees will get in effect stuff for nothing which is wrong...

i think its slack how much media crap all the protestors got for being violent or disorderly or whatever coz yeah, the protests were a pretty dopey idea coz they never ork..but violence and fights only started when pro-vsu people got there and started em... so if they're gonn acriticise anti vsu people they should give a much, if not more, criticism to the other side.

pro-vsu people did not start the fights, withoutaface is one, he was there, they didnt start trouble, the hippies did
meh if you say so... i know otherwise.... withoutaface being there and being a pro-vsu person doesn't prove anything...

and yeh course, anyone pro choice MUST be a hippy..... not everyone who takes that perspective is a complete moron

ps - note that i said both sides should be criticised n ot just anti-vsu people... so no i'm not a 'hippy' as you put it hell bent on some stupid cause.... both sides were involved in violence but it only started when particular pro-vsu gropus arrived

im all for VSU...

the union is worried that they will lose power.. cause money brings power and all the left wing whankers want their power cause they dont have a life outside of uni...

i dont care if i have to pay 50c extra for items i use, but i dont use other shit, so i dont see no need to pay for them

yeah..altho the people at the bar and cafe at parra it depends on who serves you what yo get charged..one womane charges everyone union price one charges everyone more expensive...so it dosen' like always happen...

it's not just cost of food and whatever that is the problem and that is half the problem with the VSU debate - nearly everyone assumes it's all about cost of relatively unimportant stuff like food and whatever and its not...

plus as much as the unions are useless in doing stuff like the paper and whatever since hardly anyone seems to read it, they arrange other good stuff like cheaper photocopying, fax services, shuttle buses at some campuses which are a life safer in shitty weather, all those 'autonomous spaces' which may or may not be justified but are i guess a kinda obligatino of the uni, health and legal and centrelink help, academic advice, support for any general whinges you got against the uni, student loans.. heapsa useful stuff.. it hink people forget the useful stuff they do coz they don't exactly advertise it or anything... so its not just a cost thing - its also an ability to be effective - if you don't have as many people supporting you, people wit genuine gripes with the uni are gonna find it heaps harder to get their copmlaints across and all that 'free' legal advice and money help n stuff will vanish which is a massive bad point for heapsa people

it's not left wing wankers having a bitch.... not all anti-vsu people are left wing, not all pro-vsu people are right wing .... plus add to that you acn't categorise everyone as left or right wing coz not everyone is:p

ps - for those who keep whinging about the 'union' wasting money on pub crawls n stuff - UWSSA doesn't organise these - uws connect does... uws connect organises most the stuf fthat people keep whinging about the 'union' wasting money on... so both deserve equal attention

youve forgotten chidlcare at c'town :)

im ignorant yes, but ive never known what they do so my judgement sucks...meh, its still a cost and ill only ever be happy when there is actually some table tennis happening...im selfish lol
ofcourse ive never heard of anyone who needed the stu assoc. before for anything so thats my view on their usefulness, not that they are not useful, i havent heard them being used except for some protests. i always thought uws managed the shuttle buses, thats why uws cut them as it didnt fit well in their budget and to be more "efficient"...and so the papers were critical of them for it. there is only one person now who wants to do some trivia night and needs their permission and he is v. pissed at them...

Don't care either way; I'll be gone by the time they enforce either.

isn't there table tennis at parra?..and they just got a pool table lol:p

my aunty used to work as like..i dunno her official title but i guess best word is a student rep/economic advisor in UWSSA - sh'es now at Usyd coz she got sick of the lack of admin efficiency from the student centre and all that stuff... but you'd be surprised at how many people use and really need help and support with centrelink or discrimination by lecturers or students or legal advice or personal problems and stuff

a few years ago she said there was a group of 20-ish students who all hadn't gotten that months youth allowance/ausstudy whatever was relevant, and centrelink said to em they'd backpay em to which they said yeah that's useful wjen we'll already by evicted and starving... only reason why they got centrelink moving was coz UWSSA gave em a kick up the ass...

so i mean...i can see why people don't know what they do coz they don't use the services.. so just pointing out that since people don't seem to know what UWSSA does and how much maybe they should find out before saying theyu're 100% useless.. personally...i'd be happier if they cut the union fees so it was more affordable rather than doing VSU and not sending money to UWS connect and using money pureky for admin stuff coz UWS conect organised functions and stuff i reckon should be a user pays type thing

Ask anyone who was there from either the left or right side, we did not throw anything or start anything. Funny how I manage to walk past a whole bunch of people in stop vsu t-shirts every day while resisting the temptation to punch them in the face, but as soon as anyone dares do anything pro vsu they get bottles thrown at them and are blamed for "inciting violence".

And your argument about discriminatory prices is stupid, because it will happen if UWS Union is worth its weight in salt they'll introduce a members' card.

I know some goes to the childcare facilities at Hawkesbury. But i dunno where else. Maybe it feeds the deer and the sheep

as i said before... everyone bitching about "the union" wasting money, and the $182 being a waste of money spent by "the union"...

it's split between UWSSA, UWS connect and PAUWS

shows how much everyone knows about what they're money goes to... not all of it goes to the union... hasn't it ever occured to you that they aren't called "Union fees" for a reason.....

plus apart from food, everything else that everyone is bitching about money being wasted on is not a responsibility of UWSSA.. so seriously go have a bitch at UWS Connect if you think its such a disgusting waste of money.. or PAUWS....

The Union is a terminology that, while not technically correct, a large percentage of students use to refer to student organisations in general.

In conclusion, get off your high horse and shut the fuck up.

well keeping essential services is what we should pay for, but then what can be deemed essential? social life and sports may be deemed essential by those who are activly engaged in it, where do we draw the line? the university experience as such...i agree to diffrentiate paying for essential stuff.

maybe they should pay for our printing, 50 bucks credit and the rest to essential serivces aint bad right now

so the media are making up all those reports from both sides bitching about the whole thing?...

yeah show me where i said you gotta change your mind and you're wrong about it

i was pointing out that a lot of people don't understand what their money goes to but yet bitch and whinge about what a waste of money is....if you know the whole process your opinion is justified...

if you know you're right then why are you acting so offended by my comments? especially if youre response is just to be childish and rude in return when i never accused you or insulted you or said you were wrong or anything..

same goes for the above poster i'm too lazy to answer both
