Haha BOS has done it again...

Question 7:
If you got B, that's mean you used 0.4m as length and sin45 which is incorrect. (but this is what I got :()
If you got C, well, there are two choices here:
1 if you used sin45 BUT use diagonal length (pythagoras stuff)
2 if you used sin90 BUT use 0.4m as length
If you got D, you used sin90 AND diagonal length (pythagoras stuff)

Very interesting question...

A is the most incorrect one. Where I found this? Calculate it yourself, take like 10 seconds. That's why there is a lot of misunderstanding when replying to people who had picked C.

Don't know if it is C or D though, but I think it is C because the orientation of the coil does not matter as long as it is perpendicular to the magnetic field lines. (Oh wait, I think it does, so it must be D then because there are higher probability people will choose C due to 2 different circumstances I have described above. Therefore, BOS being so evil, wanted perfection from us. So yeah, I now think question 7 is D).

No, you are not serious. You got everything wrong I believe (except 7 and 13)

This is the most correct answer at the moment (the only ambiguous one is 9):
1. C
2. B
3. D
4. B
5. D
6. A
7. D
8. A
9. B
10. A
11. A

10. A (Look at few post above for some discussion about this)

You got 14/15 if 9 is B which I gradually believe to be true.

Are you sure you are not confusing current with conventional current? I assume throughout the physics course we take it as conventional current whenever "current" word appears, otherwise it will be called electron.

I put C for Question 9. It's definitely not A - it's a homopolar generator. It's not D either, it can't be AC as there's no change in the polarity - as the metal disc is always rotating in the same direction, relative to the static components (brushes/magnets/indicator). So that leaves B or C.

There's a picture on Page 5 of this thread with a diagram of a homopolar generator, and the accompanying post saying that it indicates the answer is B - might I point out, the orientation of the magnets in that picture is the opposite to whats in the exam paper.

Nah pretty sure it's B

Also, Homopolar motors operate on a similar principle, as in, they don't need a commutator or slip rings etc, and yet operate on DC power. It's easy to make one too, and fun to mess around with :)

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homopolar_motor

My answers:
1 C
2 B
3 D [Typo before]
4 B
5 D
6 A
7 B [wrong]
8 C [questionable - negative magnetic flux??]
9 C [as above]
10 B [no idea, probably wrong]
11 A
12 C
13 D
14 C
15 A

@StYlez - 13/15, if 9 is B.
7 is D (look at it again, it is sin90, the 45 is just to trick you)
10 is A (It is DC)

@nath_quam - 13/15 if 9 is B.
5 is D (using Kepler's Third Law. How did you get C?)
7 is D (look at the diagram again, it is sin90, the 45 is just to trick you OR you probably used sin90 but the length should be the diagonal length of the square magnetic field)
