It is a government's responsibility to secure uninterrupted supplies of oil for its people. The Australian Govt have done a pretty good job at that, without losing any lives. Arab embargoes are a thing of the past, John Howard deserves credit for this.
john howard and australias pitiful commitent to the war has had no impact on petrol prices. But ur right, the war itself has ensured uninterrupted oil supplies and will probably keep prices lower in the future by securing the region. I guess some people are a bit concerned that this motive was not revealed for so long. Also, is it necessarily a good thing to keep oil prices low, and do we have the right to go to war to this?

Prices are a matter of supply and demand and it cannot be controlled by a single government unless it is willing to subsidise the price and in the end the subsidy money has to come from tax payers money anyways. if you have a slight knowlege of the middle east you dont have to be told that oil is the motive. The whole Middle east policy have everything to do with oil, and yes securing oil supply by going to war and at the same time getting rid of the world's most ruthless dictator of the past 30 years is killing two birds with one stone.

In reality the war has nothing to do with securing oil supplies themselves. It's all about doing as much damage as possible to Iraq and killing as many people (up to 10 million at this stage) so that Bush's mates in the giant multinational corporations can make huge profits in the war torn country."

Just a few comments in regard to your view on the occupation of Iraq:

The war is about oil. Oil is the most traded commodity on the planet and the life blood of American power. Of course the war is about oil! Bush has continually denied that its about oil. Public admissions by his are focused on it being a war about democracy, freedom and all those other highly potent ideas. That’s to sell the war as righteous.

10 million dead Iraqis is high by roughly 9 million. 1 million deaths is more correct.

Most of the profits made in the war come from the U.S tax payer. War has for some time been a way of transferring public money to private purses. An audit of where Australian defence money eventually ends up would be interesting.

Listen here buddy, I don't wanna hear your warmongering propaganda.

At the end of the day Bush went to war solely for the interests of himself and corporate America to further cement their hegemony. Anything else is just propaganda used to delude the unthinking masses into following bushitler's every command. This is shown by the overwhelming majority of Americans, British and Australians supporting the war. Only the discerning few can detect the true motives.

nelson didn't exactly display a war mongering mentality with that post- anyhow, the masses of all three peoples you mentioned don't actually support the war, quite the contrary, in fact. i think its ironic how they say they're spreading democracy when it isn't even work here at home. because if democracy did work, we wouldn't be in iraq today.

I suggest you do further research into how representative democracy operates. Unlike the backwards ass, barbaric, tribal Arab countries Australia has a long history of democracy.

USA being the kind, honourable nation full of freedom an truth entered Iraq for two major reasons:
* To secure oil supplies-admitted by Mr Nelson, which we have no right to do, stealing a nations livelihood and resources.
*Support of a lovely middle-eastern nation that is also 'anti terrorism' abiding. Even though under this guise children are murdered(see attached scary photos) this is anti terrorism and is definitely correct and justified. You agree?
