Water Assignment - Difference between Chemical and Physical? (1 Viewer)

Hey!

In relation to the dot point below, how am I to distinguish between a physical and a chemical test? (third point) and would the chemical processes used in the 4th point be the same as the chemical additives used in the 5th point?

Gather, process and present information on the features of the local town water supply in terms of:
1 catchment area
2 possible sources of contamination in this catchment
3 chemical tests available to determine levels and types of contaminants
4 physical and chemical processes used to purify water
5 chemical additives in the water and the reasons for the presence of these additives

I would appreciate any suggestions

i have seen some trial papers giving u a map and asking you the possible containmantion of the town's water supply... so from industrialised area u have heavy metal ions, high bod... from farms, you have huge nitrates and phosphates etc etc...

test lvl of containminants is one of the previous dp, i believe... testing the bod, do, tds, turbiity, etc etc...

purification is a dp before hand as well:
aeration
floccuation
sedimentation
chorination
microbial removal
fluorination

addictives: chorine /fluorine -> to kill microbs and protect ur teeth =D

After, or before, chlorination, ammonia is added to form a chloramine compound which provides longer lasting protection - I believe it is termed residual protective.

Phys more of what anyone else can do.

You can look this up LOL!
no worries. Chem uses chemical testing
such as flame test, dissolving CaCO3 in hard water.
quantitative and qualitative tests like BODs

Physical tests are like: evaporate water to measure TSD physical stuff

AT least this is what i think!
