ive been told its crap and full of bogans but i wanna study visual communications there (penrith). Does anyone know if its any good?

There is no difference as far as the degrees are concerned, e.g. BMed @ Usyd = BMed @ UWS.
The UAIs are just lower because less people want to go there, and that is because (a) everyone thinks that there are only bogans there, and (b) most students just happen to want to study in the City.
I dont think there would be many bogans there, though, because the students would still have to have done the HSC and would still have to WANT to study - and dont we all think that 'bogans' are dole-bludgers with an IQ of 4 anyways? So what would they be doing at uni??

It isn't there are many nice people there who are capable , It's all just a myth. Well, you choose... Foreign Full Fee Paying students, or English speaking, hicks! . (I assure you though, it's very diverse)

ive heard that the uws uai is low also cos the uni is not as established as the other unis (its newer) im just worried that if i go to uws that it wont be as well recognised as uts - i was also thinking of COFA BAdesign but its so general i dunno if its worth doing it (even if its got a really good rep). so its a choice of either uws (vis communications), uts (vis communications) or cofa (design). what uni would you choose?

You should probably list your preferences in order of highest to lowest UAI, and see what happens when you get your results. Obviously, the course with the highest UAI is the most sought-after, and that would be for a reason..?

My teachers tell me, however, that after getting your degree, no one gives a damn about which uni you got it from - and why should they, if you got a good result?

there is nothing wrong with UWS. people just seem to have this view that because its not in the city it's not as fabulously exclusively fabulous as, say, Sydney or UNSW. I've only ever been to the Penrith campus but i can assure you that if this is anything to go by, UWS has got equally as good (if not better in some cases) facilities and resources as any other university. They also have some specialised courses which to my knowledge are not found at many other places - bonus if you're looking into a fairly new industry or want a specific degree in like animation or something.

You should list your preferences according to the course you want to do, not based on the UAI cut-off. Even though unis publish certain cut-offs, many still accept students depending on the demand. Furthermore you may still end up getting into a course in the main round even though the cut-off for that year may be higher than your UAI.
