While on the surface you sometimes appear all beauty with no substance, in the right situations you can surprise everyone with your electric personality.

Admired the world over for your physical attributes you are soft, malleable and ductile - and with your capacity to be hammered into a leaf thinner than human hair you really know how to take a beating. This is not necessarily a process you enjoy. Like many beauties you can be a bit fragile - but alloying yourself with another metal gives you the toughs to make it through life as a ring, necklace or occasional dental filling. And your usefulness doesn't stop there: your talents for conducting heat and electricity and your ability to withstand the advances of dirty-old-man oxygen make you a prized (and pretty) component in circuit boards and electrical connectors.

How incredibly nerdy. :p

Helium (He)
Lucky Number 2

You are balanced and independent. You might not form strong bonds with others but when a party is on you are first on the scene.

You consider yourself the most noble of gases. But is it really noble to hog your electrons and live apart from the rest of us, Helium? Your first report card read "does not work or play well with others" and frankly you don't seem to get that that's not a compliment. Sure you're rare here on earth but in the universe at large your type is common as mud (SiO2.C2HnOx). In fact you're so colourless, odourless and unreactive it's hard to know you're around. Take note: the world doesn't revolve around you Helium. (Ok strictly speaking it does because the stupid sun is about 80% Helium, but here on earth you're NOTHING!).

Famous Heliums
Ghandi
Jesus
Laurie Oakes

Ideal Partner
Don't bother Helium. You are the original lone wolf - it takes about 13000 Volts to get you to even mingle let alone bond and settle down with anyone else. Stop wasting our time and just float on out to space where you belong.

While you are the ideal candidate for a bit of good old fashioned S&M, your true talents shine through when you mix it with a tiny bit of someone stronger - just a tad though: you're way too easily swamped by others. If that sounds too tough perhaps a spiritual life would suit you. With your detachment and smugness borne of the fact that you can always fall back on your good looks you're an ideal candidate for any number of modern day self-pandering pursuits. But with your underlying fragility it might be advisable to try a 10 day retreat before signing up for one of the contemplative orders. And try to get out of doing the dirty work - that's what the lesser metals are there for.

Chromium (Cr)
Lucky Number 24

A lustrous nature means you really scrub up well. And you're not afraid to share your good looks around - a hint of you puts the green into emeralds and the red into rubies. But it's not all about external appearances Cr. Left to your own devices you are hard and resist corrosion, though that strength comes at a price: you are a brittle little piece of work. You bring out the best in Iron, transforming this no-nonsense brawny guy into stainless steel. But not all your associations are so positive - mix with the wrong crowd and you can be toxic.

MERCURY!!

Mercury (Hg)
Lucky Number 80

Rare, beautiful and hard to hold, you entice those around you. Getting close to you can be a dangerous affair for any who fall for your considerable charms.

In your heyday you were a delightful (if somewhat toxic) plaything for children, and as a measure of both barometric and thermal status you had no peer. But the advent of affordable alcohol thermometers and the odd heavy-metal poisoning incident has seen you fall from grace in many a quadrant.

These are tough times, Mercury. Your best bet is to play to your strengths. Amalgamate where possible. And try to keep a low profile until this storm in a dental surgery blows over - confine all random scooting across surfaces to tv ads and c-class laboratories.

If all else fails, remember Mercury that revenge is a dish best served in cold. And in vapour form.

In the current climate your best bet is to amalgamate Mercury - at this stage you need all the friends and alloys you can get.

LOL oxygen

Oxygen (O)
Lucky Number 8

You are hard working, readily available (to the point of being slutty), and difficult to live without. People tend to forget any mistakes that you make and focus on your positive achievements. Love is a lot like you, Oxygen.

Your capacity for ripping electrons off more complex molecules is the bread and butter of life on this planet. As such, you are the tuckshop lady of humanity. But be careful Oxygen. Not all your electron-grabbing behaviour wins you favour. Rust springs to mind. (Specifically the side panels of my Volvo. What have I ever done to you Oxygen???)

But for all your faults, you're a winner. You interact freely with those around you and form bonds with practically everyone you meet. Two-thirds of the human body mass, nine tenths of the mass of water and a fifth of the atmosphere is You You You. Just try and lay off the car ok?

Don't be so smug. You know there is hardly an element on this oxygen-mad planet that wouldn't go you in a second. You are the poster-girl/boy of the aerobic world. Just don't let yourself go to your head. And whatever you do, don't fall for methane-sucking bacteria. Oh, and avoid naked flames.

Silicon (Si)
Lucky Number 14

You are earthy and dependable, your motives are transparent and you are good with technology.

In fact your balanced lifestyle (equally at home at the beach or in the workplace) makes you the envy of anyone with anything approaching kids and a mortgage. And your knack for keeping dry goods mold-free wins you friends in the shrink wrapping and packaging industries in general.

Famous Silicons
Bill Gates
Pamela Anderson
Sandy McCutcheon

Ideal Partner
Oxygens make a good life partner. And if you're into kinky stuff and want to take more than you give, grab your O2, form a threesome with water, and hang out in dark moist places.

LOL....IRON

Iron (Fe)
Lucky Number 26

You are solid, reliable and dependable, but tend to fall apart without a little TLC. A team player, many rely on you to get the job done. Finding the right person to get close to is important for you, you big lug.

Spurning frippery you are the embodiment of nunnish dress sense. But while everyone loves someone who takes their work seriously, would it kill you to accessorise? A little carbon or chromium draped at a rakish angle can not only create the illusion of height, it can help ward off corrosion.

Lucky Number 99

You are clever and complex. A lot of what you are exists only in your own mind and people have trouble understanding the real you. A lot of trouble...

Maybe they'd find it easier if you spent a little more time around home, Es. Of course the fact that you are radioactive and don't occur naturally doesn't help, and your origins are seriously wrong side of the track (you were discovered by a scientist studying debris from the first hydrogen bomb). You only exist as a result a long series of nuclear reactions conducted under laboratory conditions, and as such are not suited to the life of an adventurer, or rural living. Frankly, for all your brains you have no real use outside of scientific research.
