my sister is an actuary mel

it requires a lot of brains i gather, and perseverance (its quite boring)

though the remuneration is apparently really good. i wouldn't recommend it, just from seeing my sister so tired and busy all the time

"Long term risk analysis"

It may be considered the bachelor's degree of spending the next 10 years of your life studying for the actual exams.

Lol thats exactly what I do. I dont bother saying Actuarial Studies coz I know they'll ask me what that is so I just say I want to do Engineering.

Same I'm hoping I get into Macquarie. Do you think it will be easier getting a place for next year as compared to previous years? Im from Perth and have no idea what uni admissions in the eastern states are like

The cut offs for acst at macq have dropped since I went in, it's currently at 95 and I think itll probably hover around that area for a while

I agree. I doubt it will move much this year.

pLuvia, nice membership status. Now give me the 3rd and fourth moments of the poisson distribution, along with the coefficient of skewness.

Associate of the Society of Actuaries (US). This represents life/pension actuaries. They also have the Casualty Actuarial Society for general insurance actuaries. However, both societies share the same qualification process.

Aren't you happy with your academic qualifications? Trading is hardly the place I would expect for one who would want to further their academic studies.

I'd love to see an actuary who has finished all his exams unsatisfied.

Why would that be rare?
What about the kids who get pushed into it by their parents.

Cause its a pain in the arse to get all 3 parts.

Maybe the parents pushed him/her into the uni course but I highly doubt the parents would have any say into postgraduate studies, in Australia anyway.

It's best to say nothing at all rather than to say something stupid. Go talk to some medical specialists. Many are unsatisfied, and they have studied for far more years than actuaries.

Haha, there was some letter in the paper today about this comparing actuarial exams versus specialist college exams.
