Desktop sidebar until I don’t that is necessary and java 2 environment what are you using that for?

I notice on that list you have no AV or spyware\adware scanners? Nortons AV is none to be a memory hog, in case you use that.

Another option is to update your RAM, how much do you have? When talking about memory do you mean RAM (memory) or HDD space or both?

Keep Adobe, Java, and DirectX. Actually, upgrade Adobe reader to version 7.0 from here. Adobe reader 7.0 is leaner, faster, and less of a resource hog than 6.0.

"KBD" is a Logitech utility that allows you to configure the media buttons on your keyboard. If you never use those keys, you can uninstall this, however, if you use the buttons, you need to keep this.

Microsoft Money and Microsoft Works can be uninstalled if you're not using them (note that Works will include Microsoft Word).

The Desktop sidebar is an XP addin that simulates the Sidebar that's slated to appear in Windows Vista, due out late this year. It's basically the Start Menu moved to the side of the screen, with a clock and some other ditties. You can uninstall that - it's more a "i aM Kool" type thing and not useful in any way.

You should take note that aall of these programs together aren't even half a gigabyte in size. Java is just 130 MB - that's pittance on a modern computer which usually has at least 4,000,000 MB (40 GB) to play with. To free up some decent space on your computer you'll need to get rid of the big things, like games (they tend to average 1 GB of space at least). Just getting rid of these little programs won't make much difference at all.

It really depends on the programs. Its not uncommon to have a number of spyware\adware programs but depending on what the AV programs are that might be to much amazing they don’t conflict with each other.

you should've told us your hard disk space initially, it can be used to measure the "significance" of uninstalling some programs.

if you only have 10 gigs (as some older laptops do) then removing small programs might be necessary, otherwise if you have something like 120 gb then you'd tend to target games and such.

I'd say start off by deleting crap with the Disk Cleanup Utility first and foremost.

Then try something like CCleaner. I managed a few hundered MB's with this program.

Also use the add/remove function to remove programs you don't use or want. Make sure to click on the Windows component as well since some default programs are installed and you may not need them.

um.. doesn't 1000MB = 1 GB?

so.. 40GB = 40,000MB?
