School Rank 2013 - 99th

I just started year 12 and my atar aim is 95 +

English standard - 1/85 (only assessment done so far)
Gen Maths - ~/80
Biology - ~/87
PDHPE - ~/49
Food tech - ~/7

I am pretty clueless about all this atar stuff but some help would be nice? :thrust:

Since they are "low scaling subjects" you would need to be at least first or second and in addition have a strong external performance. But this isn't to say that it isn't impossible

Generally you should be first in every sub and Bio can fluctuate a bit (top 3)

You can get a 95 ATAR without any band 6's. If you got 89 in all those subjects you'd likely get over 95, but because they're low scaling try for a couple of band 6's. Your internal ranks and marks can't really be advised. Just aim for first. If you're ranked first you should be fine getting 89 in the HSC exams.

Have a look at the following three links, it might assist you to understand how ATAR is determined and how your final marks are calculated.

Congratulations on the wonderful standard English rank:) Hope you will be able to keep it up for the rest of the year. I wish you all the best in achieving your ATAR goal this year:)

Given your school rank, I'd say that you would need to be in the top 10 - 15% of all your subjects maybe. That's a pretty rough guess, but ATAR to ranks estimates are extremely difficult and notoriously unreliable. In terms of final marks, it's probably best to try an ATAR calculator, since they are more accurate than most of us.

Who would want 89. I got an 88 and 89 and was gutted I didn't get to increase my school's rank just that extra bit more.

And those subjects are not very good at scaling. A few would have to be around 91-92 to give that extra boost to get above 95.
